Health and Wellbeing at Rangeview

Hi Rangeview community,

Can you believe we are already at the end of Term 1? It has been a fantastic and busy term, with students settling into their new classes, building connections with peers and teachers, and taking part in a range of exciting events across the school.

Please see below for some updates from the Mental Health and Wellbeing space.

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

This year, we are excited to begin our journey as a School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) school. SWPBS is a whole-school approach that supports us to create a safe, respectful and positive learning environment for all students. It focuses on clearly teaching and recognising positive behaviours, so that every student understands what is expected of them and feels supported to succeed both socially and academically.

At Rangeview, we are proud of the strong culture, sense of community, and focus on wellbeing and engagement that already exists. We see SWPBS as an opportunity to further strengthen these foundations. A key reason for introducing this approach is to build greater consistency across the school, ensuring that expectations, language and practices are clear and shared by all, so that every student experiences a supportive and predictable environment.

We are particularly excited about shaping SWPBS so that it reflects the unique needs and values of the Rangeview community, with input from students, staff and families. Our staff have already begun professional learning to build a shared understanding of SWPBS and what it will look like in our context, and will soon begin developing the resources and systems we will use across the school.

As implementation begins, we will actively seek feedback from students and the wider community to ensure this approach is meaningful and effective for everyone—so watch this space! In the meantime, further staff professional learning is planned for Term 2, and our wellbeing team will be working closely with our SWPBS coach and visiting local schools to gather ideas and ensure we design an approach that best supports our Rangeview community.

Rangeview Breakfast Club

We are excited to introduce a new Breakfast Club at our school, beginning Wednesday 6th May and running weekly from then on. This is a free program run by Foodbank Victoria, designed to support students to start their day with a healthy breakfast so they feel energised, focused and ready to learn. It also provides a warm and welcoming space where students can connect with others before the school day begins.

Key details:

When: Every Wednesday morning, 8:30am – 8:55am (from Wednesday 6th May)

Where: The Gallery

Who: Open to all students – everyone is welcome!

Students will be able to enjoy a simple, nutritious breakfast including fruit, cereal, toast and muesli bars. For those with dietary requirements, there are some gluten-free options available, along with lactose-free (but not dairy-free) milk.

The program will be overseen by myself (Tegan Cant) and Rebecca Gordon. Looking ahead, we would love to involve our school community. We will be seeking parent and family volunteers to help support the program, and we also invite families to register their interest in attending for ordering and catering purposes. Please keep an eye out for further information via email in the coming weeks.

We look forward to seeing many students join us for a positive and nourishing start to the day!

We hope you enjoy a relaxing break and time spent with family and friends. We look forward to another wonderful term when students return.

Warm regards,

Tegan Cant
