Wellbeing & Engagement

Today is a great day to be you!

It's hard to believe we have already reached the end of Term 1! The term has really flown by and we've had a lot of amazing things happening across the school.

This gives us a wonderful opportunity to reflect on what has been an engaging and positive start to the year for the school as a whole. It has been fantastic to see our students settle so well into their learning, build strong connections with their peers and teachers, and demonstrate our school values each and every day.

Harmony Day

A true highlight of the term was our whole school celebration of Harmony Day. This was a special occasion that brought our community together to recognise and celebrate the rich cultural diversity that makes Rangeview so unique.

We began the day with an activity that is always memorable to our school - this year, it was the creation of a whole school ‘heart’ on the oval, with approximately 700 students and staff coming together as one. This powerful visual symbolised what Harmony Day represents at Rangeview - a community built on kindness, respect and belonging. A big shout out once again to Lejoe for filming this on his drone!

Our whole school assembly that followed showcased the incredible talents of our students, including performances from our choirs, senior band, and a wonderful individual dance by Year 3 student, Arya. It was inspiring to see students confidently sharing their talents and cultural expression in front of such a large audience.

Our ‘Big Munch’ was another standout event, with students bringing in and sharing food that represented their cultural backgrounds. This was a joyful and meaningful way for students to connect, learn about one another, and experience the diversity within our school through food and storytelling. The sense of excitement and curiosity across the school was evident, and it was a fantastic way to build understanding and appreciation.

To conclude the day, we were honoured to participate in a smoking ceremony led by Aboriginal Elder, Aunty Merilyn, which provided an important opportunity for reflection and learning about First Nations culture and traditions. This was followed by a whole school Bollywood dance session, led by the brilliant Palak, which brought incredible energy and joy as students and staff came together in celebration.

These experiences highlighted the importance of respect, inclusion and learning from one another. Thank you Palak for this fun experience!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this such a special and memorable event. It is through opportunities like these that we continue to strengthen our inclusive culture and celebrate the diversity that makes our school so strong.

Respectful Relationships

Throughout Term 1, students across the school have been actively engaged in our Respectful Relationships program. This important work has focused on building students’ understanding of positive relationships, emotional literacy, and strategies to manage their feelings in a safe and respectful way. Through a range of classroom activities, discussions and explicit teaching, students have explored topics such as recognising emotions, showing empathy, including others, and resolving conflicts.

It has been pleasing to see students applying these skills in the classroom and in the yard, demonstrating kindness, respect and an increased awareness of how their actions impact others. This learning continues to play a vital role in supporting a positive and inclusive school culture, and we look forward to building on these foundations throughout the year.

Wellbeing Tips for the Holidays

Get Outdoors Each Day: Fresh air and movement can do wonders for physical and mental wellbeing. A walk, bike ride, park visit or time in nature helps everyone reset and recharge.

Keep a Flexible Routine: While holidays are a break from school schedules, maintaining some structure (regular sleep times, meals, and downtime) helps children feel secure and balanced.

Limit Screen Time (and Mix It Up!): Encourage a healthy balance by mixing screen time with creative play, reading, outdoor activities, and family interaction.

Make Time to Connect: Simple moments like shared meals, games, or conversations can strengthen family relationships and create lasting memories.

Encourage Independence: Give children opportunities to make choices, help around the house, or manage small responsibilities to build confidence and independence.

Get Creative: Arts, crafts, cooking, building, or imaginative play are great ways for children to express themselves and stay engaged.

Prioritise Rest and Relaxation: Downtime is important. Allow space for quiet activities like reading, drawing, or simply relaxing to support emotional wellbeing.

Practice Gratitude: Take time to reflect on positive moments each day. This could be as simple as sharing “one good thing” at dinner.

Stay Socially Connected: Catch up with friends, extended family, or community groups to maintain a sense of connection and belonging.

Look After Yourself Too: Parents and Carers play a vital role in wellbeing. Taking time for your own rest and self-care helps you support your family more effectively.

Wishing all of our Rangeview families a safe and relaxing break, and we look forward to another fantastic term ahead when we return on April 20.
