Feast of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop

The Feast of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop is celebrated on August 8th, in honour of Australia’s first saint. Saint Mary MacKillop is revered for her unwavering dedication to the poor and her commitment to serving those in need. Her legacy includes the founding of many of Australia’s first Catholic schools through the Sisters of St Joseph, the order she established alongside Father Julian Tenison Woods. Her influence continues to be felt far and wide, inspiring many to follow her example of faith and compassion.

Saint Mary MacKillop can be a powerful role model for young women in several ways:

  • Courage and Resilience
  • Commitment to Education and Social Justice
  • Faith and Spirituality
  • Leadership and Vision
  • Empathy and Compassion
  • Perseverance and Determination
  • Advocacy for Women's Rights

By embodying these qualities, Mary MacKillop provides a timeless example for young women to follow as they navigate their own lives with courage, compassion, and a commitment to justice and service.

Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The staff and students of the college, Year 7 to 11, will be attending a Mass at Padre Pio Parish Church at 11.00am on Thursday, 15 August for the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In the Catholic faith tradition we celebrate this day in the church calendar as a holy day of obligation. As one of the days of holy obligation, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary is significant in the Catholic faith tradition because it acknowledges Mary’s role as the Mother of God and the Church. It is an opportunity to demonstrate our deep faith in God and devotion to Mary.

Any Year 12 students who are not sitting their Trial HSC Examinations during this time and parents and families who would like to attend are welcome to join the college community for Mass. To ensure enough seating in the church, please register your attendance by 12pm on Wednesday, 14 August if you are able to attend.

Our school community is grateful to Father Sheldon (Assistant Priest) for his generous offer of celebrating Mass for our school community, as well as Father Johnson (Parish Priest) for their positive partnership in creating a faith formation opportunity which benefits all our staff, students and parents.
