Gilroy House News

Brett Gillett, Pastoral Leader - Gilroy

Dear Parents, Guardians and Boys of Gilroy House,

We are halfway through Term 3 and there is much happening at Marist College Ashgrove and in Gilroy House.

The boys have been working away diligently in their classes with much assessment now in process before we have our EKKA break. Please continue to work with your sons ensuring they are utilising their diaries and term planners to be organised for the task deadlines and exams.

Our young Giants have been competing in the Slattery 7s and composing the Harold “like a version”. This Cold Chisel classic will have a Gilroy twist to it. Thank you to the boys competing and composing for Gilroy House as we strive to achieve House Points.

On Tuesday in our Gilroy House meeting, we reinforced to the boys the importance of being on time to school and to classes. Our key message was that being on time means you-

  • Have integrity
  • Value and respect the time of others
  • Are responsible and care

Lately, there are many boys who are struggling to arrive at College on time to be in Pastoral Care at 8:35am. The first bell to move from lockers to Pastoral Care is 8:30am.

We gave the boys 10 Tips to avoid being late-

  • Calculate your get ready time
  • Sync all clocks to the same time- wear a watch
  • Overestimate your commute time
  • Prepare everything beforehand
  • Wake up immediately
  • Plan enough time
  • Set an alarm - on an old-style clock
  • Keep your school items in the same place each night- routine
  • Be aware of traffic conditions
  • Be 15 minutes early

Please discuss with your son these ideas on how to be on time and remember to always value and respect other people’s time.

Congratulations to all the Academic Award winners. Your sons have just completed their Academic Goals for Semester 2. These goals are practical ways that your son can achieve their personal best. Please read through them with your son.

Our Year 11s have been participating in an extensive Leadership Process for Gilroy House Leadership 2025. We are very pleased to announce the 2025 Gilroy House Leaders are-

Mission - Lachlan Vink

Culture - Josiah Tsiamalili

Wellbeing - Jamie Moyes

Academic - Ben Hartfiel

Sport - Ted Clarke

Thank you to all the boys who have contributed to this important process. Our Year 11s will be our Gilroy House Leaders from Term 4 as our Year 12s participate in masterclasses and exams.

Be kind to one another.
