Prayers

We pray for people in our Marist community who are unwell or struggling in any way at this time. May they know the gentle presence of God and the care of loved ones. We pray too that who have died will be welcome into eternal life with God, and that those who mourn their loss will be comforted.

We pray especially this week for our fellow Marist community of Marist-Sion College in Warragul (Vic) who are enduring the sudden loss of Year 7 student Chevelle Ava Purdon. May Chevelle's family and all who loved her be comforted in their grief and sadness.

We also remember Maria Robles, the grandmother of Rafael 9E and past students Lucian and Matias Berkovich-Robles, who has recently passed away. May Maria rest in peace, and may her family find strength and solace during this difficult time.

Community Mass

Due to the EKKA holidays this week, there will be no Wednesday or Friday Mass. Wednesday and Friday Masses will continue in Week 7.

Gospel and Reflection

Excerpt from 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time – Sunday 11 August – John 6:41:51

I am the bread of life.

Your fathers ate the manna in the desert

and they are dead;

but this is the bread that comes down from heaven,

so that a man may eat it and not die.

I am the living bread which has come down from heaven.

Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever;

and the bread that I shall give

is my flesh, for the life of the world.'

We continue to contemplate from John’s Gospel the image of the Bread of Life. Jesus is speaking the sustenance which only God can provide, which is the total gift of himself, food which gives eternal life. For further reflection on this week’s Gospel, we would like to share the 2-minute homily from the Brisbane Archdiocese given by Deacon Ivan Ortiz and his wife Liliana, parents of Marist students, Isaac and Daniel: Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Two-Minute : Dcn Ivan and Liliana Ortiz - Archdiocese of Brisbane (brisbanecatholic.org.au)

+ May we who receive the living bread in the Eucharist, recognise and be nourished by the sacramental presence of Christ in all things. And may the wisdom and strength of Mary our Good Mother and the Mother of God guide our lives and inspire our actions, to be people of faith, hope and love.

We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Mary our good mother                          pray for us

St Marcellin Champagnat                    pray for us

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop          pray for us

And may we always remember          to pray for one another

Amen. +

Assembly: Immersion presentation and MATES Awards

At last Wednesday’s assembly, Hamish and Matthew shared, on behalf of the immersion group, some reflections on their time in Timor-Leste. During the Gospel procession, all eight students walked to the stage holding specially woven Tais as a video of Timorese Marist postulants singing played on screen. The Tais—featuring House names and colours—were presented to Heads of House or their representatives. Before leading the college in prayer, Ben explained how our College Prayer had been translated into Tetun (a common Timorese language), creating a way for our communities to be connected in faith.

Our Year 12 MATES awardees were also recognised at our assembly. These young men have contributed greatly to Mission at our college, and we’re grateful and proud of how they demonstrate what it is to be Marist.

Assumption Mass

As a Marist school, we hold a special reverence for Mary the Mother of Jesus. With the Feast of the Assumption on the 15th August, our Mass on Tuesday is will be a special Eucharistic celebration of Mary’s sacred significance to the whole Church and our Marist community. It will also be a wonderful opportunity to recognise some special award recipients.

Marist Youth Ministry Connect Night

On Friday of Week 4, a group our senior students enjoyed games, reflections and connection with students from fellow Marist schools. The evening began with a shared meal in the Marist fashion. Throughout the night, the students considered different social issues and topics, and learnt the importance of listening to diverse opinions. Marist Youth Ministry runs Connect Nights every term, which is open to all our senior students to attend. Stay tuned for notification about next term’s Connect Night!
