What a privilege it was last week to watch the annual school production of ‘Legally Blonde”. Lead actor, Brooke Thomson, was terrific. I am amazed at the way that she performed her lines, songs and dance moves. The energy of Scarlett Benham, Grace Gibson and Kate Whorwood livened up the crowd and the flexibility of actors such as Jessica Burge, Reesha Khosa, Billy Kentish and Zion Rodriguez who were able to adapt and play multiple characters showed great talent. Special mention to Bailey Bowd, Trinity Sutton, Bella Henderson and Justine Larona for the joy that you brought to the show.
All cast and crew have been dedicated to the school production since casting in November 2023. An absolute credit to Talia Henderson and the staff for including all students that wanted to participate, for finding ways to make each scene and each song great and for having the energy and passion to bring the production to life.
In the midst of the school production we also held our annual Athletics Carnival. We were graced with beautiful weather conditions. The students attending and completing did so in a wonderful spirit, with many younger students volunteering to fill places in older age groups. The Athletics Carnival was a fun day and one where we celebrate the achievements of those that have been blessed with speed, endurance and strength. Congratulations to Tenison House for winning the trophy on the day. Congratulations also to Solomon House for winning the House Spirit Award and to the Age Champions and Record Breakers.
On Wednesday this week I enjoyed a day with Rob Waterson and seven Year 9 and 10 students at the Victorian Merino Wether Challenge. This was the first year of the challenge and the first experience for our school in showing sheep. The students, with Mr Waterson, have been feeding and handling the sheep since March this year. Although our sheep were not ribbon winners, one of our sheep, sheep number 55, was provided with a special mention for the look and colour of his fleece. We will give some consideration over the next few months if we will be able to take part again in 2025. Thanks to Mr Waterson, Aaron Spong and Paul Pellegrino, who have helped the students over the course of the program and to Mr David Rush for transporting the sheep to the show on Wednesday.
Next week we welcome Ms Jessica Burge as the Personal Assistant to the Deputy Principals and the following week Ms Amy Haw will begin in the role of Pastoral Care Centre Receptionist. Both Jessica and Amy come with many years of administration and retail experience. We look forward to them joining our community.
We are currently advertising a number of positions at the school, Deputy Principal Community and Culture, Director of Wellbeing and Teaching positions. If you know of anyone that might be interested in a position at our great school, please point them in the direction of our website, www.smmc.vic.edu.au.
