📚 The Book Fair is coming!
The Book Fair will be held from the 2nd - 6th September and we would love some parent helpers to run it. If you have previous experience, or would like to learn, we would be grateful if you would consider helping this year. Please see Julie Barnden if you are interested.
🎵 Prep Concert
Last week, your child should have bought home the script for the concert in their book pocket. If the script has been lost in transit, please let us know and we will provide them another one!
We would be very appreciative if you could help your child learn their lines at home!

📝 Literature: reading responses and writing
The mentor text this week is the fairytale, Cinderella. Students will use this text to form the basis of their literary responses, such as writing about about their 'dream' castle and creating a design plan for the STEM castle building challenge.
We will continue to add to our 'Fairy tale character / setting gallery' by using adjectives to describe character and setting.
📸 Learning Snapshot: Look on Showbie for a visual and oral retell of the story of Cinderella.
What can you do at home?
-Reinforce correct entry and exit points for letters if your child writes at home
-Provide authentic opportunities for your child to write at home eg. writing birthday cards, shopping lists and keeping score in games.
-Practise lower case letter formations on the app 'red writing'
🔢 Maths
Students will explore the number concept of 'part-part-whole' (two or more numbers - the parts - combining together to create a larger number - the whole). They will deconstruct a whole number in a variety of ways, record their thinking (eg. 6 can be broken up into '3 and 3', '4 and 2', '2, 5 and1', etc) and make connections to addition in this way. They will also make connections to subtraction by finding missing numbers and learning about 'inverse' operations. eg if 3 and 3 make 6, then 6 take away 3, must leave 3.
Mathematical vocabulary used: whole, part, combine, partition, join, more, less, addition, and, add, subtraction, take away.
What can you do at home?
-Use the 'Friends of 10' app to practise making numbers in different ways. Make sure that you use two different coloured counters!
-Practise writing numbers at home, ensuring that numbers are not reversed! See the poster below which shows the correct entry and exit points for number formation.
🌏 CBL - Respect
During writing sessions, students will be planning their box construction creation. In CBL sessions, they will form a group and practise their team building and negotiation skills by ensuring that an element from every group members' castle is included.
Next week, they will work in their small group to construct their Cinderella inspired castle.
