We had a fun week celebrating Book Week. On the Monday, we dressed up in a costume as our favourite book character. On Tuesday, we had a ‘Book Tasting’. The classrooms were set up as restaurants with tablecloths and centerpieces on the tables. The students had a paper dinner plate, which they had decorated, and a book menu. Each table had a variety of books relating to the same genre, such as picture story, non-fiction, adventure, an author, a series and fairy tales. The students had an opportunity to browse through the books on their table and then write about one of the books they would like to read at another time. There was such a buzz in each classroom.
Later in the week, we were very fortunate to have Olympian boxer, Harry Garside, chat to the students and answer questions. He was such an inspiration to listen to and he provided the students with many life lessons.
We also had the opportunity to listen to Nadia Wheatley, the author of ‘My Place’. We had read the book during Term 1 as part of our History studies. It was interesting to hear her thoughts about the book, but she also provided the students with ideas for their own writing.
Last week, we had our first run through for the school production. By the time of reading this, we will also have had our dress rehearsal. A photographer has taken individual photos of each student, which we will be selling at Yarra Valley before the production commences. (We are still needing volunteers to sell the photos at production.)

Harry had some really inspirational words. He said “You could be whatever you want to be.” He also said “It's important to believe in yourself.” He is so super nice!
Nadia Wheatley’s book, My Place inspires me in Australian History. The TV show really interests me and makes me want to watch it.

I was really inspired by Harry’s quote.
Once you lose something you then go on a journey to find something else.
My reflections about Harry visiting Yarra Road are; Be yourself, You can do anything you want to, Work hard, Believe in yourself, Ask questions. Harry Garside is the only ‘famous’ person or Olympian I have ever met in real life. All the other athletes and famous people have all been on screen. This is my second time seeing him in my own eyes for real. The first time I was only young and didn’t care, now this is real. I’m older now and I understand better. It was an amazing experience having an olympian at my school talking to everyone. The quotes and questions and answers were all so genuine. I enjoyed it so much!

Harry gave out information that I will keep forever in my heart, for example he made a quote “once you lose something you then go on a journey to find something else” That means once you lose don't give up, those words will stay forever in my heart, Harry you're a real hero keep on fighting!
Nadia is a very talented writer, something that Nadia has taught me was that not all stories don't have to be scary or funny or weird they just have to be written by you, and be made by you. They just need to be unique and special in your own way. Nadia's book ‘My Place’ was a very good book to read. I hope that people take on from her stories and create more like that!

During Book Week, we had lots of fun dressing up! I dressed up as the Green Crayon. A group of friends also went as the other coloured crayons so we had the whole book. We had a lot of fun. We went to the gym in the morning to show off what we looked like.
Then the next day of the week we did a book tasting. We started off with colouring a paper plate, then we read books to see if we liked it or not. It was a lot of fun but sad for it to be our last Book Week at primary school.

On Monday morning of Book Week, we had an assembly at the start of the morning. Each class stood up, walked around the gym and showed their costumes to the rest of the school. Then the teachers walked around the gym as well. After that we did a book tasting where each table had a genre (e.g. non-fiction, picture story, chapter books, procedural texts, etc) and we had about seven minutes to read a little bit of the book and then write down our thoughts on paper. I dressed up as the witch with a cloak from the Lord of the Rings, I don't remember the character’s name, however.

For our Book Character Dress-up Day, I dressed up as young Shane Warne when he had a mullet! Book Week was fun because we did a parade. After everyone had their turn we went back to our classrooms and drew who we were and it was heaps of fun!

On the week of Book Week, everyone had the choice to dress up as a character. I dressed up as Gangster Granny. The whole school did a parade in the gym and then after recess my class (5/6 B) did an activity for Book Week. Then later in the week, my class did something called book tasting. You filled out a sheet of paper for every story you read. In my opinion I really enjoyed Book Week!

For Book Week, I dressed up as Charli from the book, 'Saving Charli'. I chose this character because she is strong, independent, and she speaks up for herself, and I really like characters like that! Another highlight of Book Week was book tasting. We weren't actually tasting books though. We were simply reading different genres of books, and we were writing about them. I think my favourite genre was picture story-books, because they had amazing illustrations, and the vocab was very good! I think no matter how old you are, picture story-books are always fun to read!

Book tasting was so fun! The classroom was so well decorated and we got to make our own plates. We had menus on the side where we would write our thoughts of a book from the different genres. But best of all we got our food at the end which was chocolate!

Two weeks ago it was Book Week and I came as a pirate. There would have been about four other pirates that day. It was fun. We got to do book tasting that week as well and we listened to Harry Garside, the boxer. It was a great week.

For Book Week I came as Percy Jackson. I chose this character as it is my favourite book. During Book Week we did book tasting and now I like Deltora Quest, because I had the chance to read a bit about it. When we listened to the talk with Nadia, the author of My Place, I found out about a show and a new perspective of the book. Later in the week Harry Garside visited and talked about his experience in Paris. He said he was housed next to Jess Fox.
