Year 3 & 4

Around our level

It has been very busy down in the 3/4 area in the past 2 weeks.  We held a Father’s Day Afternoon, Father’s Day Stall, Hoop Time, production practice and a surprise visit from Harry Garside.

Last Friday, we invited all our Dad’s and Special People to come celebrate Father’s Day. It was an afternoon based on STEAM challenges and enjoying time with those who play a special role in our lives.

We started with a lolly wrapper challenge. Everyone was challenged to rip a lolly wrapper into the longest piece they could. Some found it challenging to keep the lolly wrapper from ripping into pieces.

It was really fun. It kept ripping and I thought that was really funny. And I love spending time with my dad, so that made it REALLY fun.

It was really fun, my grandad beat me because he does it with minties all the time. We came second and nearly won the chocolate.

Mine wasn’t as long as my dads, but my dad kept ripping his for way longer than me. We ended up winning the chocolate.

Our next challenge was a timed building challenge. Each student and special person had 1 piece of modelling clay, 50 toothpicks and 20 minutes to build the tallest tower. The rooms were abuzz with the humm of eager builders hoping to build the tallest tower. It was interesting to see the different designs that were being trialled. Some of the challenges the builders faced were the modelling clay being very soft and resulting in towers leaning and eventually falling.

It was really fun. My dad and I got to bond together. And it made it even better that we won.

It was fun. We put the toothpicks together to make a base and it went up.

It was fun to have my Dad there. We made a frame and then put the sticks up. We would love to thank all our Dads and Special People for coming on Friday and we hope they had the best Father’s Day.

On Monday, the 3/4 students represented Yarra Road at Hoop Time. All the students tried their best and wore the Yarra Road colours with pride. It was so great to see all the students showing the school values of Be Kind, Be Safe and Be Respectful.

A big thank you to all the teachers and volunteers for making the day possible.
