What's on in Foundation

Fire Education

Foundation students were bursting with excitement for our two special visits from our local Firefighters. We learnt so many things about how to stay safe around fires and the importance of knowing the difference between ‘good fires’ and ‘bad fires’. It was great to see the Foundation students explore what to do if there is a fire. When we hear the fire alarm we know to ‘Get down low and go go go’ to safely get out of our house to our safe meeting place. We could not believe the Firefighters only had 90 seconds to get their entire outfit on, so we timed them to double check. I wonder if we could get dressed in the morning that quickly? Of course, the absolute highlight was the second visit where we got to climb into the seat of a firetruck! Our little firefighters then learnt about how to spray the giant fire truck hose and seeing how high we could squirt the water. We were surprised at the muscle it took to push it on and off. Our oval grass was well and truly well watered!

Book Week

Our absolute favourite way to celebrate our love of reading was reading our favourite books during Book Week. It was fabulous to see our Foundation students transform into their favourite Book Week characters for our dress up day on Tuesday. We loved welcoming our family and friends into the classroom to draw a new front cover for our book character. We loved seeing the enthusiasm and enjoyment everyone showed sharing their favourite books and explaining why they loved reading. Foundation students were also lucky to have a visit from an author, Karen Kepert. She was so excited to come and visit our students with her book ‘Scruffy and Silk’. We loved chatting about our own pets, reading the story and celebrating differences with a song. As a parting gift, Karen left us a copy of her book to donate to our school  library to continue to grow our love of reading.
