Curriculum Committee Commerce Development Rubrics Showcase

In the Curriculum Committee space this term, Domain leaders have commenced showcasing their developmental rubrics for review. With Humanities, Arts, Music and Science leading the way staff have presented some excellent overviews of their in-depth skill mapping and collaboration that has taken place across a range of disciplines using a range of developmental taxonomies. The purpose of the showcase is to ensure developmental rubrics meet the point of need of all students at Greensborough College; and it is through rigorous planning, reflection and refinement of developmental rubrics leaders can maximise the skills and expertise of all teaching staff to ensure rubrics cater to all students’ learning needs. Thank you to Murray Ravenhall, Callum Harber and Kirrily Simmons for presenting the outstanding work of your Domains.

Enrichment Showcase Shines Light on Innovation

The recent Enrichment Showcase was a curriculum highlight for Term 3 as staff passionately pitched their new subject offerings to the year 7s in preparation for 2025. Students were given captivating performances by the Enrichment team as they presented detailed overviews of the types of projects, assessments and learning activities students could choose from in 2025 including a wide range of offerings such as Lego competitions, science experiments, Tik Tok dance challenges, E-Sports gaming tournaments, Rock and Rome clay modelling, music collaborations, graphic novel creations and much more! A huge thank you to the Enrichment staff for all their wonderful contributions to innovation and design of new curriculum.

Instructional Model & Professional Learning Communities

Cycle two of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) for 2024 has begun.

Teachers have opted into professional learning groups to develop teaching strategies to support their VCE students or students with ASD, ADHD, dyslexia or behavioural challenges.

For instance, some teachers have designed strategies to assist students to unpack task words in VCE exam questions, others are focused on building strategies to teach vocabulary to students with dyslexia, while some are working on how to adjust assessment tasks to meet the needs of their students with ASD.

Teachers then implement the strategies they have developed in their classrooms, testing the efficacy of the approach and honing and refining the strategies further.

As part of the PLC program, teachers also observe one another while implementing these strategies in the classroom. Teachers provide feedback to one another on what they observed. This provides teachers with a new perspective, an opportunity to reflect, and a valuable learning experience. Teachers observing one another also demonstrates that we learn together and from each other. This practice presents an important message about the value of collaboration, openness and teamwork to our students.

Teachers will present their learnings to one another in Week 9.
