Parking Update

Over the past few weeks, Bayside City Council has undertaken a detailed investigation into the parking and traffic suggestions raised by members of our school community.

A number of the suggestions raised have now been investigated. Council has identified some opportunities to create a small number of additional parking spaces by reviewing existing No Standing and Bus Zone restrictions where appropriate. They have also agreed to line mark the Kiss and Go zone into eight designated bays to improve efficiency and encourage more consistent use of the available space.

Some suggestions, whilst initially appearing beneficial, unfortunately proved impractical. For example, formally line marking parking bays along surrounding streets would actually reduce the number of available spaces, as parking bays must meet minimum legal dimensions. In several locations where two vehicles currently fit comfortably, formal line marking would legally only permit a single parking space.

Whilst these changes won't solve the challenges we are all experiencing, we are hopeful they will provide some incremental improvements.

I appreciate Council's willingness to investigate the matter so thoroughly and will continue to work collaboratively where further opportunities arise. Again, I would like to thank everyone who took the time to provide ideas and feedback, Kate Blackwell for championing the discussion with Council

Maths at Home

Developing confident and resilient mathematicians is about far more than simply learning number skills. Helping children develop a positive mindset towards Mathematics plays a significant role in their confidence, persistence and long term success.

This week Carolyn (Maths Learning Specialist) has written a great article on our Curriculum Page outlining practical ways families can foster a positive attitude towards Mathematics at home. I encourage you to take a few minutes to read through the article and explore some simple strategies that can make a real difference to your child's learning.

Burrito Day

A huge thank you to Carlo for organising our recent Zambrero Burrito Day, and to the team at Zambrero for their support of our school.

The day was a wonderful success, raising more than $600 for Hampton Primary School. These funds will contribute towards the construction of the new pergola in our Kitchen Garden, providing students with an improved outdoor learning space for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who supported the day by placing an order.

Book Week Dress Up Day

Our annual Book Week Dress Up Day will be held on Thursday 27 August, (rather than the traditional Friday), to ensure all year levels can participate in the celebrations. This falls in the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week, with a theme of Symphony of Stories this year.

Families are invited to join us for our Book Week Assembly, which will be held first thing in the morning and will showcase the wonderful creativity of our students.

This year, I encourage you to think sustainably (and simplicity!!!) when planning costumes. Many of the most creative costumes are made from items already around the home or can be borrowed or reused, helping reduce waste.

Benevolent Fund Dontation

I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Kiwanis for their generous donation of $400 to the Hampton Primary School Benevolent Fund. The Benevolent Fund provides financial assistance to ensure students experiencing financial hardship are able to participate in camps, excursions and other important school experiences alongside their peers. It is a wonderful initiative, originally proposed by Grade 1 grandparent David Larkins, and one that the school is proud to continue supporting.

If you would like to contribute to the Benevolent Fund and help ensure every child can fully participate in school life, please contact the school office.

Dads and Kids Camp 2026

Planning is already underway for the popular Hampton Primary School Dads and Kids Camps, coordinated once again by Sven.

Two camps will be offered in 2026, taking place from 6 to 8 November and 27 to 29 November at CYC Forest Edge, Neerim East. The camps continue to be a wonderful opportunity for fathers, father figures and male guardians to spend quality time together with Hampton Primary School students whilst enjoying a fun weekend outdoors.

Priority for bookings will be given to families who missed out last year, followed by Grade 6 families, before remaining places are offered more broadly.

Further information, including booking details, will be shared soon through the HPS Dads WhatsApp group and email distribution list. Families not currently on either mailing list are encouraged to contact Sven directly for further information. A huge thank you to Sven for the work required to organise these events; they are a huge undertaking and such a wonderful experience for our community.
