Helping Keep Our Students Safe at Drop-Off and Pick-Up

As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety and the smooth operation of our school at busy drop-off and pick-up times, we would like to remind families about the correct use of the Kiss and Ride parking zones. When these areas are used appropriately, they help reduce traffic congestion and create a safer environment for all students, families, and staff. We appreciate the cooperation of all parents and carers in following the parking requirements outlined below.

Kiss and Ride

These zones are designed for quick entry and exit and minimise congestion and risk when used properly by all parents and carers. These zones operate under the same conditions as no parking zones, which means you may stop to drop off or pick up children for a maximum of 2 minutes. You’re required to remain in, or within 3 metres of your vehicle.

Growing Strong Character Through SEL (Social and Emotional Learning)

This term, our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) focus is moving into the area of Character Competencies. Our first lessons will focus on understanding and practising regulation. Students will explore how their brain and body respond to different emotions, challenges, and stressful situations, and they will learn strategies that help them become calm, safe, and ready to learn. In child-friendly language, regulation is the ability to notice what is happening in our body and brain and choose helpful strategies to manage our response. We teach students that strong emotions and stress can make it harder for the “thinking part” of the brain to work effectively. Through explicit teaching, students learn how thoughts, actions, feelings, and physical responses are connected. They also learn practical strategies such as breathing, movement, positive self-talk, and making helpful choices to support their wellbeing.

Students will also participate in a range of Collaborative Challenges designed to help them practise important skills such as self-management, teamwork, perseverance, empathy, communication, and responsible decision-making. These challenges provide students with opportunities to apply their learning in real situations, work with others, solve problems together, and reflect on how their actions support both their own success and the success of their group.

By developing regulation skills, students build the foundation for learning, healthy relationships, resilience, and positive participation both at school and in everyday life. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home by asking children what helps them feel calm, safe, and ready to learn.

Every Day Counts

At Edgeworth Public School, we know that students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve success both academically and socially. Being at school every day helps students build strong relationships, develop confidence, maintain learning routines, and fully participate in all aspects of school life.

Each week, the school reviews student attendance and monitors students whose attendance falls below 85%. When concerns arise, families may receive an Attendance Letter 1 to notify them that attendance has become a concern and to encourage early support and communication.

Regular attendance is not only important for learning; it is also a legal requirement under the Education Act 1990. Parents and carers are responsible for ensuring that children of compulsory school age attend school whenever the school is open for instruction and that an acceptable explanation is provided within seven days of any absence.

Families can support regular attendance by:

  • ensuring children arrive at school on time (school begins at 9:10 am)
  • making appointments outside school hours where possible
  • planning travel during school holiday periods

We understand that some families may experience challenges that affect attendance, and we are committed to working in partnership with you. If there are any issues impacting your child’s attendance or engagement, please contact the school so we can discuss ways to provide support.

Thank you for working with us to ensure every student is able to connect, succeed, and thrive through regular school attendance.

The Premier's Sporting Challenge is back for Term 3! This NSW-wide initiative encourages students to develop healthy, active lifestyles by participating in a range of physical activities both at school and at home.

The Premier's Sporting Challenge is a fun way to promote teamwork, resilience and personal achievement while building lifelong healthy habits. We look forward to seeing all students get involved and challenge themselves to be active every day!
