SAVE THE DATE
We are planning to hold a special event on the morning of Graduation (Wednesday December 16) for up to two adults / primary carers of each family to attend. This is something new, but wanted to provide you ample time to hopefully be available to join us that morning. More information will be released early in Term 4 (we will also send this message out on Compass soon).
Reminders
- All secondary school acceptance forms need to be returned to the office
- It would be a great idea to start gathering photos for Term 4 scrapbooking
- If you have a child who rides a bike to school, please remind them to ride safely and follow the rules (that were explored during Bike Ed in Grade 5)

Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow

At the start of Term 3 we started reading a book titled Nevermoor, and just recently finished it.
Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow turned out to be a story of kindness, friendship, determination, and seeing through yourself to face your fears. Through this book it has changed our understanding of things aren't all the way they seem, and to never judge a book by its cover. And also the people you love are always there for you!
The story had many twists and turns, which has been really helpful to craft our own narratives. We hope to share them with everyone soon!
Writing

This term, the Grade 6 students have been writing narratives. We had to include a magical portal that sent their main character to a mythical place. My story takes place in a town called Sylvestra, where my two characters, Pluto and Glitter, set up camp, not knowing what lies ahead of them… Here is a sample of my story.
Pluto turned over his shoe and a trickle of blood poured out. It might have been a smidge. Or a stain. Whatever it was, it poured right out. He was lucky he listened to his friend. Usually he went barefoot, as his feet were thick and hairy. Pluto is a halfling, or as more commonly known as, a hobbit. He liked to think he stood taller than anyone else, but the truth was he was no taller than half a great stallion.
Maths

Location & Transformation
This week in Maths, we started a new topic about Cartesian planes. The Cartesian plane is 2 number lines (axes). The x- axis is the horizontal one and the other one is the y-axis, which is vertical. The four segments in between the gaps are called quadrants.
In class, when we have a Maths lesson, we have a Cartesian plane on the TV and there is a point somewhere in one of the four quadrants. From then on, we have to work out the coordinates. Sometimes we have to put the coordinates in ourselves and connect the dots to make the shape, after the shape is made we have directions for the shape to move. We have also started to look at how the shapes can tranform, including translating, rotating and flipping.

Three-way country study
This term, the Grade 6 students have been making slideshows on our topic: 3-way country study. We have learnt about Australia, Vietnam and Greenland. Some of our topics include trade, climate maps, landforms, and natural resources. We started at the start of the term and then got 3 weeks to make our slideshow.
The slideshow has a set of criteria that we need to follow. The aim is present creative slides, including maps and images, that compare the three countries in the topics I listed above. We will be showing the rest of the Grade 6 students our slideshows before the end of the term.
Wellbeing
KINDNESS
The school value of kindness has been at the forefront of our conversations and learning this term. It is important that the students not only understand what kindness is, but also have the ability to showcase what kindness looks like, sounds like and feels like on a consistent basis.
During the most recent Circles session, the Grade 6 students led their groups in conversations around kindness. Students were able to show gratitude to someone important in their life by writing a letter and drawing pictures. We hope that some of you received a letter from a grateful Grade 6 student!
