Divisional Athletics
Our students enjoyed a fantastic day of competition at the Bendigo Athletics Track on Monday 14th of September, representing St Francis at the Divisional Athletics Championships.
It was great to see the students put their preparation into practice, give their best across their events and support one another throughout the day. There were some excellent performances, but just as pleasing was the effort, attitude and sportsmanship shown.
Well done to everyone who competed, and best of luck to those progressing through to Regionals!

Divisional Athletics Write Up
On the Monday the 14th of September was the divisional athletics. It was a sunny day with lots of fun. We started the day with the 800m runners. They all did very well with Josh, Henry, Lotti, Ada and Hazel going through. In high jump we had Bella and Gus making it through both jumping an amazing height. We had Jack and Jenson making it through in 200m putting their fast legs into action. Chimdi, Jack, Adelaide and Iris making it through in 100m with a lightning speed run.
After that we had Sophie, Leticia, Ned, Jack and Will making it through in long jump jumping as far as kangaroos. In 80m hurdles we had Bella, Lohan, Billie and Iris making it through jumping at an incredible time. Making it through in triple jump we also had Ned, Will, Billie and Leticia nailing the hop, step, jump. In Discus we had Ivy making it through, throwing it further than USA.
At 12:15 the relays started, every St Francis team had the best passes and ran so fast. Every team also won, everyone making it through. At the end of the day for the last event, we had Eadie, Josh, Henry, Ada, Hazel and Gus making it through for 1500m (4 big, long laps around the track). I would also like to say a great job to all the kids who didn’t make it through but tried their best. We were so proud of all the kids who cheered all day long.
I’d like to say a big thankyou to all the teachers and supporters that came along on the day, a big thanks to Mrs Zealley for helping behind the scenes, and most of all a big thanks to Mrs Coates for all the training, organization and encouraging every athlete to set them up for a great day. Thanks for listening.

F-2 Mini Athletics Morning
On Friday 30th October the students in F-2 will be having a ‘Mini Athletics Morning’ held on the school oval. We will focus on participation and encouraging students to do their very best while enjoying the morning.
The students will participate in a variety of events starting from 9.15am and finishing just before 11.00am. The students will compete in modified running events, hurdles, long jump, shot put and discus.
Please note, there is no ‘winner’ awarded as such, as mentioned above, the focus is purely around participation and enjoying the activities.
We encourage the students to wear their house colours on the day (Clare- yellow, Francis- green, Backhaus- blue and Mackillop- red), this can include ribbons, face paint, coloured t-shirts etc. The students will participate in their year level.
It would be great to see as many parents and supporters there as possible cheering and encouraging the efforts of all students.
We will also have a coffee van for you to enjoy!
Thank you for your support,
Danielle Coates & Luke Freeman
Jamboree
Congratulations to Toby Chandra-Thio for being selected to partake in the 2026 Country Jamboree pathway! We hope you thoroughly enjoyed yourself! Well done!
Mountain Biking
Congratulations to Xavier Hogan and Tommy Harton, who did a fantastic job representing SFOF at the Bendigo round of the Vic Schools Mountain Biking Series last term.
Competing in the U11 Novice category in a field of 18 riders, the boys completed four laps of the 2km course in around 29 minutes. Xave finished in 4th place, with Tommy finishing 13th.
Both boys rode exceptionally well, particularly considering it was their first ever experience of competitive mountain biking. They showed great determination throughout the race, consistently gave their best and demonstrated excellent respect for their fellow competitors.
Well done, Xave and Tommy, on a fantastic effort and proudly representing SFOF!
Royal Melbourne Show success - Equestrian
Maddy Bridge competed at the Royal Melbourne Show in the Equestrian events. She had a fantastic show, with some really exciting results:
- 🏆 Champion Child’s Hunter Galloway against over 30 competitors under 18yo that had qualified.
- 🥇 1st Place – Rider 10–12 Years
- 🏆 Reserve Champion Junior Rider
- 🥇 1st Place on her Shetland Pony, Sadie
- 🥈 2nd Place on her pony Freddie in the Show Hunter class
We are incredibly proud of Maddy and all the hard work and dedication she puts into her riding. It was wonderful to see her achieve these results at such a big event.
Jack Morrell hits the Track in Japan!
What an incredible experience for Jack, who recently had the opportunity to race in Suzuka, Japan!
Jack learnt a huge amount over the weekend, racing with a different engine and tyre package than he is used to. Despite a few crashes during the heats, which meant starting the final back in 18th position, Jack continued to improve and showed great determination.
In the final, he raced competitively against drivers who regularly compete at the Suzuka track using the same engine and tyres. Jack drove extremely well, working his way through the field to finish an impressive 12th place.
Adding to the experience, two other Australian boys also made the trip to compete. Jack loved having the opportunity to race alongside them and said having friends there made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
We are incredibly proud of Jack for embracing this exciting challenge, learning from the experience and representing Australia with such enthusiasm. What a fantastic and memorable opportunity!
