Principal's Update
King’s College Social Media (Age-Restricted) Use Policy
From the beginning of 2026, King’s College will introduce a refreshed Social Media (Age-Restricted) Use Policy for all students K–12. This update sits alongside our existing Mobile Phones Policy and Student Code of Conduct and reflects new Australian laws that will require social media companies to take reasonable steps to prevent children under 16 from having accounts (from 10 December 2025).
Our aim is simple: to provide a safe, Christ-centred learning environment where technology serves learning and wellbeing, rather than undermining it.
Social media can help us stay connected and share learning, but it also exposes young people to significant risks, including:
- Distraction and reduced learning time
- Cyberbullying, harassment and social exclusion
- Privacy breaches, scams and online grooming
- Exposure to harmful or age-inappropriate content
- Sextortion and the misuse of images and AI-generated content
National concern about these harms has led to the upcoming age-restriction framework for social media use by under-16s. As a Christian school, we want to be proactive, not reactive.
Our updated policy, which is available on our website:
- Aligns with Victorian Department of Education expectations and Child Safe Standards
- Prepares our students and families for the new social media restrictions for under-16s
- Reinforces our commitment to student safety, wise decision-making and healthy habits online and offline
As a Christian community, we want our students to learn how to use technology in ways that honour God, protect others and reflect love, wisdom and self-control.
We encourage parents to:
- Talk regularly with your child about their online behaviour and habits
- Support the upcoming under-16 social media restrictions by carefully considering whether and how your child uses social media
- Reach out to us early if you have concerns about your child’s online experiences
If you have any questions about the Social Media (Age-Restricted) Use Policy or would like support in navigating these changes at home, please contact your child’s Head of School or the one of our Chaplains from the wellbeing team. Together, we can help our young people grow into safe, responsible and discerning digital citizens.

Uniform Reminders
We would like to remind families of a few key expectations regarding the King’s College Uniform Policy. Wearing the correct uniform helps maintain a sense of pride, consistency and belonging across our school community.
Girls’ Hair Accessories
A quick reminder that the only acceptable hair accessories for girls are:
- Plain navy or plain maroon scrunchies
- Plain navy or plain maroon narrow headbands
- Plain navy or plain maroon ribbons
- Hair elastics should match the student’s natural hair colour
Thank you for ensuring these guidelines are followed each day.
Sports Pants
We have noticed an increasing number of students wearing black or non-emblemed navy track pants. These items do not form part of the approved King’s College sports uniform.
On sport days, students must wear either:
- The King’s College sports pants, or
- The King’s branded leggings
This ensures our uniform remains consistent and reflective of our school standards.
For full details, families are encouraged to review the complete School Uniform Policy, available on our website.
We appreciate your support in upholding our uniform expectations and helping our students present themselves with care and pride.
