THE FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING

As we approach the end of the liturgical year, the Church celebrates a special solemnity: The Feast of Christ the King. This feast, held on the final Sunday of the Church year, invites us to pause and reflect on who Jesus is for us and how His love guides the way we live.

Instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI, the Feast of Christ the King reminds us that Jesus’ kingship is unlike any earthly ruler. He does not lead with power or force, but with humility, compassion, and self-giving love. Jesus shows us that true leadership is found in service—especially to those who are vulnerable, forgotten, or in need.

For our school community, this celebration encourages us to think about what it means to follow Christ’s example. When we show kindness, include others, tell the truth, forgive, and act with fairness, we participate in building the kind of kingdom Jesus spoke about—a kingdom of peace, justice, and love.

As families, this feast is a wonderful opportunity to talk with your children about:

  • Jesus as our guide—the one who teaches us how to love others.
  • The values of God’s Kingdom—mercy, respect, compassion, courage, and service.
  • How we can bring Christ’s light into the world—through small, everyday actions.

This particular Sunday will also be of special significance for some of our year three students who will make their First Holy Communion at the 11am Parish Mass.  Please keep Eden, Mason, Niamh and Norah in your prayers as they prepare for their special day.

The Feast of Christ the King also prepares our hearts for the season of Advent, which begins the following week. Just as we honour Jesus as our King, we prepare to welcome Him once again into our lives at Christmas.

May this celebration inspire us to live with hope, love, and gratitude as we follow Christ, our King, in all we do.
