“You can’t be afraid to fail. It’s the only way you succeed—you’re not gonna succeed all the time, and I know that.” Lebron James
On Tuesday, 28th October, three of our Senior Basketball Teams travelled to Eagles Stadium in Werribee to participate in the next round of the Hooptime Competition.
The All-Star Boys, All-Star Girls, and Future Stars Mixed teams left school with enthusiasm and excitement — though with a touch of uncertainty — as this was their first chance to hit the court after being automatically promoted through the Keilor Competition in the previous round.
The All-Star Boys, coached by Rob Drew, relished the challenge of facing some of the best teams in the region. A special mention to debutant player Romeo D, who is currently in Grade 3, was able to take it to the big boys in what was sometimes a physical encounter. Each game tested their skills and teamwork in different ways, allowing every player to dig deep, compete hard, and learn from the experience. What we gained today was valuable insight and an appreciation for the next level of competition.
The All-Star Girls, coached by Mr Cook, also embraced the challenge of competing against some tough and talented opposition. The team played with great energy and flow, producing several close contests, but were unfortunately unable to progress through to the finals.
The Future Stars Mixed Team experienced a true mix of results. Facing strong and seasoned teams, they showed outstanding perseverance, resilience, and determination—fighting for every possession, every pass, and every shot right up to the final buzzer.
A huge thank you to all the parents and families who made the trip to Werribee to support our teams—your encouragement means the world to us! An extra special thank you to Mr Cook and Rob Drew for their time, coaching expertise, and passion for helping our students shine. We also extend our thanks to Yola H for assisting with supervision throughout the day.
As we wrap up another fantastic year of Senior SoGS Hooptime Basketball, we’re incredibly proud of our players and the way they represented our school. We look forward to coming back stronger and better in 2026!
Go SoGS!

On Wednesday 5th November, our school was delighted to welcome Rylan Evans, a contestant from Lego Masters, for a whole-school LEGO incursion. Students from Prep to Year 6 took part in a range of exciting LEGO Masters–themed building challenges, including the LEGO Tower Challenge, the imaginative Funnimals design task, and the creative engineering activity known as The Hanging Brick. Throughout the sessions, students used teamwork, problem-solving, design thinking, and creative expression as they planned, constructed, modified, and celebrated their builds together. Rylan shared insights and stories from his time on Lego Masters, inspiring students to think boldly, work collaboratively, and embrace a growth mindset when building. The day brought great joy, excitement, and a wonderful sense of community as students explored learning through hands-on play.
