Mathematics

In Maths, we have recently completed a revision unit on addition and subtraction, where students revisited key strategies such as the split strategy and the vertical strategy. Through a range of engaging activities, including an exciting Escape Room challenge, students deepened their understanding of how numbers can be broken apart and recombined to solve equations efficiently. They also practised regrouping to tackle more complex problems, further strengthening their confidence, accuracy, and fluency when working with larger numbers

Reading

In Reading, students have been exploring the text Wolf Girl by Anh Do and have now begun working on their own book reports based on the novel. They are learning to identify key story elements such as characters, setting, and main events, while also sharing their personal reflections and opinions about the text. This task encourages students to think critically about the story and express their ideas clearly in writing, helping to strengthen both their comprehension and written communication skills.

Writing

In Writing, students have been focusing on crafting interesting resolutions and endings for their narratives, learning how to bring their stories to a satisfying and engaging conclusion. They are also exploring how to include dialogue effectively, using conversations between characters to reveal personality, advance the plot, and make their stories more dynamic. As part of the editing process, students are developing their skills in grammar, punctuation, and the use of engaging adjectives to add detail and depth to their writing. They are learning to revise their work carefully, considering how word choice, sentence structure, and descriptive language can enhance the clarity and creativity of their narratives.
