Grade 3-6:

Term 4, 2025 Newsletter– Week 8 Update

It has been a busy and productive few weeks across all classrooms as students continue to develop their Reading, Writing and Maths skills. With only a few weeks left of the school year, each class is working hard to finish the term on a high note.

Grade 3/4A – The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

The Grade 3/4A class has continued reading The One and Only Ivan. Students have been exploring the characters’ emotions and discussing the important messages of kindness, empathy and freedom. They have also been completing a range of reading tasks to build comprehension and vocabulary skills.

In Writing, students have been planning and creating their own Narrative pieces, using interesting characters and descriptive settings. They have also been practising Persuasive Writing, learning how to express their opinions clearly and back them up with strong reasons.

In Maths, the class has been learning all about Time. Students have been reading both analogue and digital clocks, converting between units of time, and applying their knowledge to real life problems.

Grade 4/5A – Runt and the Diabolical Dognapping by Craig Silvey

The Grade 4/5A class has been thoroughly enjoying Runt and the Diabolical Dognapping. Students have been analysing how the author builds tension and excitement through descriptive language and dialogue. The class has been discussing the importance of loyalty, problem solving and courage in the story.

During Writing lessons, students are continuing to refine both their Narrative and Persuasive writing skills. They have been focusing on using strong openers, varied sentence structures and emotive language to make their writing engaging and convincing.

In Maths, students have been exploring Mass, Capacity and Length. They have been comparing, estimating and measuring using appropriate units, and applying their knowledge through hands on investigations and problem solving activities.

Grade 5/6A – The Last Bear by Hannah Gold

The Grade 5/6A class has been deeply engaged in The Last Bear, responding thoughtfully to the novel’s messages about environmental care and courage. Students have been working on identifying themes, analysing character development and connecting the story to real world environmental issues.

In Writing, students have been applying their skills in both Narrative and Persuasive genres, producing detailed and well-structured pieces. They are focusing on editing their work to improve clarity, vocabulary and cohesion.

Looking Ahead

As we move towards the end of the term, it is wonderful to see how much progress students have made across all areas. Their enthusiasm for reading, writing and problem solving continues to shine. We look forward to celebrating their hard work and achievements in the final weeks of the year.
