P/1 1/2
In the last few weeks, we have had National Bird Count, Pollination week, Frog ID week, National Recycling Week and Bugs in my Backyard.
In Science we have looked at all these special events what we can do at WMPS. Pollination week - we learnt about which insects and birds are pollinations, completed pollination activities and walked around the yard to see the bug hotels that the SAKG groups have made.

Last week was Bugs in my Backyard and National Recycling Week and as we do a great job at recycling at WMPS, we focused on bugs. Our yard is full of bugs, and we learnt how to find them, what bugs are good for our garden and what to do with the bad bugs. Both science classes went for a walk around the yard and found many bugs which we marked off our bug audit and a list that tallies the whole nation's bugs in backyards. Our bug audit will also be submitted for WMPS in our portal in Resource Smart Schools under biodiversity.

National bird count was conducted by all year levels and we entered what birds were observed in our yard. We have a lovely family of Tawny frog mouth nesting in our large trees near the senior playground and they have survived the wind and storms. Some year levels drew birds and investigated where the different birds live at breeding times.

In the Art Room
The Preps - 2 have been learning about American artist Georgia O'Keefe and her love of painting close ups of flowers, shells, bones and deserts.
We have painted our own huge flowers, mixing colours on our paper as we paint, and learning about warm colours and cool colours.

The 3/4s have been experimenting with watercolours and the different effects that can be achieved by different techniques. They drew, then painted a medieval castle, inspired by "What a Knight".

Year 5/6 students have been creating their alter ego from the production as a character armature. They're looking pretty good! Some of the skills required were challenging but it's been pleasing to see the creativity used to solve the issue of dressing their character.
