Oliver Jeffers Literacy Unit

This term Grade 1 children have been reading some amazing books by Oliver Jeffers, including This Moose Belongs to Me, Stuck, Lost and Found, and There’s a Ghost in this House. We have loved talking about the characters, settings, problems, and solutions in each story.

We noticed that Oliver Jeffers’ stories often have funny problems and clever solutions and we have been using his books as inspiration for our own narrative writing. We planned stories that made sure our characters faced an interesting problem to solve —just like in Jeffers’ books!

We are also enjoying looking closely at his illustrations and how they help tell the story. By creating images and illustrations, we are learning to visualise and plan our ideas before we begin writing.
