Book in a Day
Congratulations to the Year 6 team of students who participated in the annual Book In A Day competition. This challenge raises much needed funds for children with cancer and this year donation reached 1.2million dollars. This year saw, 16,661 writers, within 2257 teams from 569 schools in both primary and secondary divisions competing for Best Book, Best Illustrations, Highly Commended and Commended book. Solway is thrilled to share that we were awarded Highly Commended for their book ‘The Great Switcheroo’. Well done to all involved.
Boroondara Library - 1000 Books before School
Join the challenge and read 1000 books before the first day of school!
Sharing stories with pre-school children is considered to be a simple and fun way to establish a lifelong love of reading, learning and discovery. Boroondara’s 1000 Books Before School program encourages parents and pre-school children to start their literacy journey, and commit to reading 1000 books together, before the first day of school.
Whether it’s a book you’ve read together at home, a story from kinder, a library storytime session, or one that’s been read multiple times before, log them all in your 1000 Books Before School reading passport, complete activities and earn rewards along the way.

Wushka/ Reading Eggs/ Fast Phonics
All students in Year 1 and 2 at Solway have access to a digital library of decodables and non-decodable take home books on Wushka. From Prep to 6 students have also been given a Reading Eggs login, including access to Fast Phonics and a digital library of take home books in additional to games and activities aimed at reading development. Ahead of the 6 week holiday period, please check you have access to these program should you wish to keep up your take home reading over the holidays.
