Principal's message

Hi Solway PS community,

Across this week, our Indigenous mural on the shipping container has come to life. This vibrant artwork marks Phase One of our garden bed rejuvenation project, with a Gaga Ball pit to be installed in the coming weeks as the next exciting addition to this space.

We are incredibly grateful to Scott Rathman, whose creativity and cultural knowledge have brought this project to life. Scott spent time working with our Grade 4 and 5 students, learning about what makes Solway Primary School so special. The student’s ideas and reflections inspired the design, and the result is a stunning visual story for our school community. If you’re looking at the mural, you’ll notice three main symbols that represent the heart of Solway Primary School: Friendship, Learning and Opportunities.

We look forward to partnering with Scott again in the future as we continue to build spaces that reflect our values and celebrate the diverse stories of our community.

A huge thank you must also go to the Community Bank Inner East (Bendigo Bank). Funding from their Community Investment Program has made this project possible, and we deeply appreciate their ongoing support for initiatives that enrich our school environment.

This week, teachers began important process of creating class groups for 2026. This is a thoughtful and collaborative process that considers each child’s academic, social and emotional needs, as well as the overall balance of each class. This work and will continue refining class lists right up until Statewide Transition Day on Monday 9 December, when students will meet their new teacher and classmates for next year.

As part of this process, we will also be running internal transition sessions to help students begin preparing for the shift into their new year level. These sessions will take place on:

  • Friday 28 November
  • Friday 3 December

These transition opportunities are an important part of supporting students to feel confident and prepared for the year ahead.

Families may have noticed the activity and construction work happening around the OSHC Hall on Taylor Street. We are thrilled to share that Estrella Kindergarten will be moving into this space from 2026. This partnership presents a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our connection with Estrella and further support the transition of their children into primary school. Having the kindergarten located so close, will allow for increased collaboration, smoother transition processes, and more opportunities for our early years teams to work together.

Thank you for your continued support and lets all strive to be “our best always”.
