Maths: In 5/6DW, our class has been focusing on conventions between fractions, decimals and percentages. They have learnt to streamline the conversion, making it faster and easier for them. In addition, they have been ordering them on a number line and converting them to compare in ascending or descending order. We also worked on word problems using what we’ve learned about finding discounts and figuring out how much money we saved. Then, we worked in pairs to make our own word problems.
Religion: Our topic in Religion was to learn about the 8 Beatitudes. They discussed their thoughts on what they mean and then they researched the meanings of the 8 Beatitudes, understanding each one of the true and faithful meanings.
Inquiry:
In inquiry 5/6DW has been learning about Evolution and Adaptations.
They got to make a poster about endangered animals and how they adapt to survive. As well as watching a video on how scientists believe humans evolved throughout the years.
English:
During reading 5/6DW they learned about poetry including haikus, limericks and acrostics. The students had chosen either to write all 3 or to focus on 1-2. They have also begun to focus on persuasive writing and information reports. This helped us learn how to use figurative language properly. Some kids have even improved adding more information and being very descriptive and can write a conclusion.
Poems: BY ELVIN
Limerick Poem:
The Stinky Shoe:
Once there was a shoe,
That looked very gross and blue
Causing all people to barf,
And making all of the people to cover their mouths with a scarf,
Now it's sticking to everything like glue.
Haiku Poem:
Snowy Dark night:
Flakes gliding down bound,
Creating great sounds around,
Making night sleep tight,
Acrostic Poem:
The Finest Plane Trip:
Powering engines rolling all,
Leveling the engine to its call,
Aiding people wanting vacation,
New celebrities having collaborations,
Easing all peoples brawls.
