Jeans for a Cause
Our COHR staff social justice action is to share with our fellow staff members a charity or social cause that has a meaning to them. Staff are encouraged to donate to the charity, to pray for the people touched by the charity and to take the opportunity to learn more about their good works.
"Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks and gave them out to all who were sitting ready; he then did the same with the fish, giving out as much as was wanted." (John 6:11)
On Friday 18th October, our staff will have our next 'Jeans for a Cause' to build awareness around the Royal Flying Doctors Service.
Before there was the Flying Doctor there was little medical help for people who lived in places far from cities. If they were seriously injured they had to travel hundreds of kilometres by horse, cart, or camel to reach a doctor. They often died before they got there. Reverend John Flynn witnessed the daily struggle of pioneers living in remote areas and had a vision to provide a 'mantle of safety' for the people of the bush. He once said "If you start something worthwhile - nothing can stop it" and this simple truth is evidenced by the RFDS today, over 90 years on.
Every two minutes, someone needs the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Whether it’s a life-threatening injury, an inter-hospital transfer, or to see a GP, dentist or mental health clinician, the RFDS is there for Australians in need. The RFDS is a not-for-profit organisation, while they receive government support, they rely on donations to bridge the gap in funding. No one should suffer because they cannot access the healthcare they need.
If you would like to know more about the service you can visit the website here. There is even a real time map showing you the life saving flights that are happening right now.
If you would like to donate, please click here.
Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference and helps the RFDS continue to reach those in need.
Thank you!
