Freddie the Well-being dog!
Freddie, our wonderful well-being dog, has settled into his role at school beautifully. Every Wednesday, Freddie brings comfort, joy, and a sense of calm as he spends time with students and staff alike. He visits various classrooms and the literacy intervention area, where students enjoy reading to him, and Freddie listens intently to their stories, encouraging them to develop their reading skills with his non-judgmental presence. In addition to his classroom visits, Freddie loves spending time in the office with Mr. Gow and Ms. Nagel, where he brings a smile to everyone who passes through. Whether he’s curled up at their feet or greeting students who come by the office, Freddie’s gentle nature is always appreciated.
Freddie also enjoys his outdoor time, particularly his visits to the chickens in the Stephanie Alexander Community Garden. He loves to explore the garden on his breaks. He also enjoys spending time with a teacher on yard duty and saying hello to all the students.
The staff involved in introducing Freddie to the school have been working hard towards gaining accreditation for the well-being dog program, and their dedication has paid off as Freddie continues to be embraced as a valued member of the school. With each visit, Freddie strengthens his bond with the students and staff, creating a positive, nurturing environment for all.
We hope to increase Freddies visits to two days a week from next term.
