FARM
Upcoming Farm Skills Competition - 19th September
Excitement is building as students prepare for the Farm Skills competition in Perth next Thursday. With weeks of after-school practice honing their fencing abilities, the students are ready to showcase their skills in a test of teamwork, precision and speed.
Teams of five will compete to construct a 60-metre, 3-strand plain wire fence within 25 minutes. Students will erect their fences using pliers, wire strainers, and other tools. Key tasks include inserting a 'figure 8' join, attaching wires with Waratah fence post clips, and ensuring even spacing and tension.
In addition to fencing, students will demonstrate their abilities in other areas such as first aid, chemical safety, tractor driving, firefighting, sheep husbandry, shearing, livestock judging, agronomy and fabrication.
Students will compete against the other four Ag Colleges, showcasing a broad range of essential farm skills.
The competition promises to be a great day out. Good luck to all participants.
