Year 8 Fieldwork

During Term 3, Year 8 HSIE students studied Place and Liveability. They were required to identify an issue at KKHS, conduct fieldwork to collect data, analyse their data, and present their findings.

To provide them with some of the tools and information to do this, we had a visit from Cessnock City Council. Senior Planner Rob Drew and Principal Community Engagement Officer Tom Griffiths spent several hours rotating through each hub, explaining how they identify issues, collect and analyse data, and make plans to resolve these issues.

They got students involved in the process both by looking at their projects broadly, but also getting students to contribute to a data collection activity they use, investigating community opinion on housing type suitability for local suburbs.

Students really enjoyed the chance to see Geography in action and commenced their fieldwork tasks with a lot of enthusiasm as a result.

Transition

In other HSIE news, year 5 students from local primary schools got to participate in a Geography lesson while they were here on a transition day, where they used their skills to navigate a map and find secret symbols. All students were keen to participate and have hopefully had a wonderfully positive first experience of KKHS.

Senior Students

We would like to congratulate our senior students who are nearing their final exams, the last hurdle in completing either Year 11 or their HSC. This period can be challenging as students juggle stress, study commitments, and maintaining motivation. It's important to stay focused on the tasks ahead. Remember, your hard work throughout the year has prepared you for this moment. Keep pushing forward with determination, and we wish you the best of luck in your upcoming exams.
