Multicultural Market Day

On the 10th of September, Thornbury High School came together to celebrate the multiculturalism within the community at large.

Similarly to 2023, there were a bevy of students who came to school dressed head to toe in cultural attire, representing something that obviously means so much to them and the willingness to display it to their peers.

At lunch time, the festivities kicked off with a Welcome to Country, followed by a display of dances from First Nations, Ecuadorian and Greek students.

Others were providing an insight to their culture through the likes of food and drinks such as Saudi Arabian coffee and some delicious Greek kofta with tzatziki.

Beginning a new tradition, the 2024 Year 11 Business Management students were tasked with running the first ever Market Day at the school.

24 groups of students ran multicultural themed stalls from the likes of the ‘Fair Dinkum’ sausage sizzle to the ‘Mediterranean’ pita and spanakopita stall.

Some students will be the first to tell you that the “vibes were high, and the sales were higher”.

In the end, the cohort raised $373.25 for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, ready to be donated to those in need.

All in all, the day was a great success, and we are certain that next year’s cohort of students will only seek to make the celebration that much greater.
