Book Week 2024
With floating candles hanging from the ceiling and Harry Potter Lego on display, the library was ready for this year’s Book Week theme - reading is Magic! The week was magical and lots of fun
with competitions, displays and lunchtime activities to entertain students and staff.
Our THS student leaders really stepped up this year and were a delight to work with. The Arts Committee ran a design a magic-themed book cover competition, SRC set up a gorgeous blind date with a book display complete with a dating profile for each book, and the Academic Committee organised the ever-popular match the staff member to their favourite book activity. Other highlights of the week include book dominoes and a competition to make a digital book trailer. Throughout the week students worked on their digital book trailers with their teachers and submitted some fabulous 30 second videos. The entries were all unique and creative. Well done to everyone who entered and congratulations to the winners: Nora Adams, Phoebe Lecouter and Myria Waugh for their Divergent book trailer.
The highlight of the week was, of course, the costume parade, with our very own Sophie Grant taking on the role of MC at the last minute and doing a stellar job. Parading down the runway, the 36 participants proudly showed off their costumes. The enthusiastic audience were treated to an array of characters ranging from the heroic - Percy Jackson - to fairy tales - Gingerbread man, and the magical - Mary Poppins! Well done to all participants!
Once again, our student leaders generously agreed to be student judges. Sophie, Lilia, Meija, Alivia and Christina, looking the part in suit jackets, had the difficult task of selecting the following prize winners:
- 1st overall winner for best costume - Isabelle Turvey as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz
- 2nd overall winner for best costume - Margaux Richardot as Mary Poppins from Mary Poppins
- 3rd overall winner for best costume - Jemimah Douglas-Gillet as Robin Hood from The adventures of Robin Hood
- Best homemade costume - Joe Joyce as the Gingerbread Man
- Most original costume - Ashwyn Rethinam as Souichi Ito from Junji ito
- Best in-character performance - Rosalie Morton as Ella from The Ella and Olivia series
- Best Group costume - Jaspar Conway, Belinda Hickey, Elliot Kiokakis and Mr Glenn Bason as characters from Bioshock
- Best Staff costume - Ms Alessandra Borg as the Fairy from Pinocchio

A special thank you to our wonderful videographers Jemma-Belle Thompson and Achilles Antonopoulos for filming the event, supported by Rebecca Grey. And thank you to all participants as well as the students and staff who helped make this joyous event a success.
