Junior School News

What's happening in Years 7, 8 and 9.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This term has been filled with exciting opportunities and accomplishments across our Junior Sub School, and we are proud to celebrate the achievements of our students.

Our SWPBS (School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support) initiatives have been a great success, with students participating in rewarding excursions, including trips to the snow and ice skating. We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Gold Cards Excursion to Gumbuya World, which will be the perfect way to wrap up the year and celebrate our students' commitment to our school values of Integrity, Respect, Achievement, and Teamwork. These excursions not only provide fun and memorable experiences but also reinforce the importance of working hard and showing positive behaviour in and out of the classroom.

In the classroom, we have seen outstanding work from students across all year levels, particularly in the Junior Sub School. The dedication and enthusiasm of our students have been truly impressive, and we are seeing their growth in many areas. Whether it’s in English, Mathematics, or Science, students have demonstrated their drive to succeed and embody the values that Glenroy College holds dear.

Our Year 9 camp was another highlight this term. Students were given the opportunity to challenge themselves, build stronger connections with their peers, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. The camp allowed them to step outside their comfort zones and grow, both personally and academically. It was an amazing experience for everyone involved, and we’re proud of the maturity and resilience they demonstrated. The Science department also took students on engaging excursions to the STEM Centre of Excellence. These trips provided hands-on learning experiences that sparked curiosity and deepened their understanding of scientific concepts. It's always inspiring to see students immerse themselves in the world of science, and we are proud of their achievements in this area.

Our recent parent-teacher interviews were a fantastic success, with many families taking the opportunity to meet with teachers and discuss the progress of their children. It’s through these collaborative efforts that we can ensure the best outcomes for every student, and we are grateful for the continued support from our school community.

Lastly, we want to acknowledge the remarkable students involved in the CU Program, a joint partnership with Swinburne University. These students have worked incredibly hard and recently attended their gown fitting in preparation for their upcoming graduation. This momentous occasion highlights their dedication and commitment to their studies, and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements.

We look forward to the exciting events and learning opportunities that lie ahead. Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community.

Warm regards,

Ryan Lok

Year 8 Footy tipping

During the 2024 AFL season Ms Nelson and her classes of Year 8 students created a ‘footy tipping’ competition where they discussed teams and coaching strategies in the AFL. They then discussed these strategies in relation to teaching and being students. The main themes being resilience, hope for the future and loyalty to one’s team.

Gus led all season but fell off as Melbourne, her team, didn’t make the finals. Ms Nelson came second despite her team, Essendon, not making the 8. The winner was a tie between Abdul and Mohamed who, not surprisingly, barrack for Hawthorn and Carlton respectively.

“Learnings” can happen anywhere!

Kind regards,

Ms Nelson
