From the Assistant Principal, Cocurricular
As our summer sports trials and games commenced last weekend and continue into next term, I thank in advance our sport convenors and coaches for their time and efforts in training and preparing our summer teams for the season. We head into the spring break this weekend and only District Cricket will continue through the break.
Both ISA Basketball and ISA Cricket teams will have friendly pre-season hit-outs during the holidays. There will be internal trial games in both basketball and cricket on Saturday 19 October (Week 1) with Round 1 of the ISA and NSTA competition seasons starting the following week, on Saturday 26 October.
A reminder that all students playing summer sport should ensure they have the correct uniform for their sports. This should be obtained from the Uniform Shop prior to the competition starting.
I am pleased to announce the following list of our summer sport cocurricular coaches and convenors.
Mr Matt Stearn - Assistant Principal, Cocurricular
Basketball
- Grading Process: The basketball grading process is now finalised. It was extensive and involved multiple afternoon and PE sessions, to evaluate and allocate players based on skill levels across all year groups.
- Team Finalisation: Teams are now 95% complete, with most players allocated to A-F teams or development squads, depending on the number of players and the available ISA spots. Teams will be shared via Clipboard asap.
- Coaching Appointments: As per the coaches list attached.
- Development Squads: In some age groups, due to over-subscription, development squads have been formed, ensuring that all boys can participate in weekly training and Saturday programs.
- Game Information: Information regarding game schedules and locations will be shared via Clipboard. (They will appear in your calendar) to ensure all players and parents are kept up to date.
- Coaching Course: Fourteen of our coaches recently completed the Club Coach course, which was highly successful and will greatly benefit our teams this season.
- Training & Game Schedules: The training schedule will be shared via Clipboard, once teams are officially announced, ensuring all players have ample preparation before the season kicks off.
- Training Attendance & Commitment: We will be tracking training attendance this season through Clipboard. Commitment to training is key, and we will be monitoring it across all teams. If players aren’t meeting expectations in terms of attendance and effort, we will have discussions with them and or their parents and, if necessary, implement consequences to ensure commitment aligns with the College expectations. Each situation is different, and this will be monitored on a case-by-case basis. Parents and players will be provided the expectations prior to the commencement of the season.

MWJCA Cricket
The SPX Purple cricket team have had a fantastic start to the Manly Warringah Junior Cricket Association competition with a two from two victory over Forrest Falcons and Collaroy U17’s. The team posted an unbeatable 200 runs at Oxford Falls, with Edward Stearn starring with the bat, knocking 78 runs while Ezra Hartnett scored 48 runs to put the team in an unassailable position. The bowlers under the captainship of Mattew Dixon restricted the strong Forrest batting line-up for 179 runs. Taj Nott starred with the ball, with 3 wickets for a paltry 31 runs.
The team celebrated with a second victory this weekend with an emphatic win over Collaroy, the SPX batsmen setting the opposition a run chase of 186 for victory. Kamran Nadeem sacrificed his prized bat for a competitive 33 runs off 35 balls. The team are in a good position for a competitive season of cricket.
U14 Green
SPX Green 7/146 (Z Nadeem 26, Z Chippendale 20, B Costain 20) def. by St Augustines Green 5/148
For the second consecutive week we won the toss and batted. We got off to a positive start, and set a good foundation of 2/75 off 15 overs. Unfortunately we lost a couple of wickets straight after drinks which stifled our momentum. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and we struggled to get on top of some tight bowling and sharp fielding. Everyone made a contribution, with Zac Nadeem top scoring with 26, but no-one was able to go on with it. A good last couple of overs got us up to 146.
St Augustine's started their inning confidently, before a good piece of fielding from Oscar Clubbe resulted in a run out in the 5th over. Unfortunately from there St Augustine's got on top and we weren't able to peg them back, and they won with 4.5 overs remaining. They boys tried hard and had some good moments with the ball, but ultimately we weren't consistent enough. Some good learnings and we will be looking to get back into the winners circle next week.
All games are posted in the PlayCricket App through PlayHQ. If you do not have the PlayCricket App installed on your device, you will need to access your relevant App store to download the app, set up your ID and follow St Pius X College Chatswood cricket.

Summer Squash
Want to represent St Pius X during the summer season? Then you should consider squash! St Pius X participates in the Sydney Junior Pennant run by Squash NSW with training at Willoughby and games at Willoughby and Thornleigh. Squash is one of five new sports set to feature at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028. An indoor racquet sport that never gets rained out and is great for fitness, even if you’ve never played before you’ll be smashing balls with the best of them by the end of the season! Registrations are open on Clipboard and you can contact Mr Madani for more information at jmadani@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.

Footy Boot Donation Drive | Rugby For Good
We're excited to launch our Footy Boot Donation Drive as a way for Pius Rugby to help provide boys and girls in need with quality rugby boots.
By donating a pair of new or used footy boots we can support a kid chase their dreams on the footy field. Please ensure all donated boots are cleaned and in good condition. Together, we can make a difference to a kid that otherwise wouldn’t have access to the boots that they need to play their best footy. #RugbyForGood #FootyBootDrive
