Year 5/6
We have had a super busy and exciting start to our last (for our Year 6’s- last EVER) Term of 2024! Here’s an overview of what our Year 5/6 students have been up to:
Swimming Program
We kicked off the term with a fantastic week of swimming, where our students showed great enthusiasm and skill in the pool. A special shoutout goes to those students who generously helped our Prep classes each day—your support was invaluable!
Dance Concert
Our Dance Concert was a huge success! The 56J class wowed us with their hoop dancing inspired by Native American traditions, while 56C brought energy and rhythm with their Samoan clapping dance and New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) performance. We are so proud of all the students for their hard work, dedication, and courage in performing in front of families and friends. You all made the night unforgettable!
Men’s Shed Visit
Our last lot of Year 6’s recently completed our last annual visit to the Men’s Shed, where students engaged in hands-on activities, making bird boxes and pencil cases. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn new skills while contributing to our community.
Melbourne Cup Visit
Lancefield was lucky enough to be visited by the Lexus Melbourne Cup last week with a parade in town, and our Year 6’s were even LUCKIER when they got to hold the $750,000 gold cup. What a special, once in a lifetime opportunity!
SAKG Cooking Lesson
56J also had their first Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG) cooking lesson last week. Both classes enjoyed a lovely day of gardening with Kaye, soaking up the sunshine and learning about the importance of growing our own food.
Curriculum Focus
In our learning this term, we are diving into the historical fiction novel ‘Tom Appleby, Convict Boy’. This story provides a great lens through which we will explore British settlement in Australia and the differing perspectives surrounding this history. To deepen our understanding, students will be writing an information text on this topic.
In maths, we have been working with the Cartesian plane, focusing on adding and subtracting negative integers. The students are making great progress and developing their skills in this area.
As we move forward in Term 4, we look forward to more exciting activities and learning experiences. Thank you for your continued support!
