Thanks to all who have taken the time to connect with staff this week.  It's been great to further get to know the children and their families.  We look forward to continued partnerships as the year progresses. Stay tuned for volunteering opportunities, including involvement in our CHAPS group or events. (see Working With Children Check requirements below)

E-Scooters

Reminder to parents that children are not permitted to ride e-scooters on site at any time. Please see the below website for all the Victoria laws regarding e-scooters, including minimum rider age of 16+

Free Public Transport for Children

Gallery Image

Public transport is free for children under 18, saving families up to $755, per child, per year.

This makes it easier for young people to stay connected, whether travelling to school, sport, work or social activities, while helping families save on everyday costs.

The Youth myki is available for purchase for $5 – this is for the cost of the card, you won’t need to pay for anything after this.

Early Arrivals to School

Please note that supervision commences at 8.45am, we ask that parents either book into OSHC before this time or drop their children off from 8.45am, or remain with them on site if arriving before 8.45am.

Traffic & Parking

There have been many sighting of children and adults crossing the road during peak times not using the designated supervised crossing.  This is extremely dangerous and we ask that the crossing is used to avoid a tragedy.

We have also had several reports of children riding bikes on the footpath at excessive speeds and urge families to have a conversation with their children to ride slower and to check driveways for hazards (reversing cars and pedestrians stepping out).

Volunteers: Working With Children Check

Our school values the many volunteers that assist in our classrooms, at sporting events, on camps and excursions, and at other events and programs.  To ensure that we are meeting our legal obligations under the Worker Screening Act 2020 and the Child Safe Standards, Croydon Hills Primary School is required to undertake suitability checks. Specifically, volunteers are required to have a Working With Children Check or equivalent.

Volunteers are asked to produce their valid card to the Office for verification on their first visit to the school in the following circumstances:

  • Volunteers who are not parent/family members of any student at the school are required to have a WWC Check if they are engaged in child-related work regardless of whether they are being supervised.
  • Parent/family volunteers who assist in school activities, regardless of whether their own child is participating or not
  • Parent/family volunteers who assist with excursions (including swimming), camps and similar events, regardless of whether their own child is participating or not.
  • Parent/community School Council members sitting on School Council, Croydon Hills Parents’ Association (CHAPS) and Men Of The Hills (MOTHS).

To ensure you can fully involve yourself in the life of the school I encourage all parents and carers to ensure they have a valid Working With Children Check - they're free for volunteers!
