Welcome back to Term 2. We are still enjoying such beautiful Autumn weather, so let’s enjoy it while it lasts – it will be Winter soon enough. Even though we are in Term 2, and don’t need to wear hats, the sun still has a bite. We encourage hats to be worn, and sunscreen is always available.
ANZAC Day falls on Saturday this year, so there will be no public holiday. We will have a school captain, Evelyn, speaking at the ANZAC Day ceremony and our vice captains, Cooper and Eoghan will be laying a wreath on behalf of the whole school. I hope the nice weather holds for the ceremony, as this is usually a large event in our community. It is timely, with the conflict that is happening on the other side of the world, that we remember the importance of human rights and making sure we stand up for them. This is something that can be done every day, by every person, by being an active bystander when you see something happening that is not right. It is important that we remember the terrible conflicts of the past, to help prevent repeating the same mistakes.
Save the date in Week 4, Tuesday 12th May! We look forward to seeing all students at school, as this is a school day. House spirit is always better with more students joining in.
Family members are welcome to come and watch the fun; as a Child Safe School make sure you come and sign in at the announcer’s table and say hello!
Last year, a competitive application process occurred to ascertain the students who would fill positions at the School for Student Leadership. Unfortunately, only 4 spots were provided to our school in 2026. Whenever spots are limited, there will always be some disappointed people, however learning to manage a disappointment and grow from the experience is a good skill to develop.
The Year 9 students attending the Gnurad-Gundidj Campus, at Glenormiston South (in the Western District of Victoria) were supposed to head off at the end of Week 2, however, due to a flooded bathroom over the holidays and the necessary re-building the start date has been delayed. Caleb, Harry, Nina and Zoe will attend a shortened program, being away for 6 weeks. When the students finally arrive, they will have a fantastic time and I look forward to hearing about their Community Learning Project towards the end of their stay.
