5/6 News

Dear Families,
As we come to the end of a busy and productive term, we would like to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful learning that has taken place in Grade 5/6.
In Literacy, students have worked hard on developing their narrative writing skills through our class novel The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. This text has provided a meaningful context to explore themes of connection, belonging, and our role as humans in the world. Students have also begun exploring persuasive writing techniques, including the use of high modality words and emotive language to strengthen their arguments.
In Spanish, students have been building their own narratives using model texts focused on the impact of pollution and the actions young people can take to make a difference. They have worked on incorporating connectors, possessive pronouns, adjectives, and personal pronouns to improve fluency and avoid repetition in their writing.
In Mathematics, students have been developing their understanding of decimals and fractions. They have practised comparing and ordering numbers, locating them on a number line, and applying their knowledge to addition, subtraction, and problem-solving tasks.
Looking ahead to Term 2, we will begin our Tier 2 Maths Intervention program, where students will be grouped based on their current skill level. This will allow us to provide more targeted support and extension to meet each student’s learning needs.
Last week, students participated in the Supreme Incursions, where they demonstrated fantastic collaboration and problem-solving skills while working through a series of engaging challenges. It was wonderful to see their teamwork and perseverance in action.
We are incredibly proud of the effort and growth shown by all students this term and thank you for your continued support.
Wishing you all a safe and restful break.
