3/4 News

Happy end of term one!

We want to begin by acknowledging all student efforts over these last ten weeks, and want to congratulate them all on their great success! We are so proud of how you have settled into routines and expectations of grade 3/4 .

The last few weeks have been extremely busy. In both the English and Spanish classrooms students have been busy publishing their narratives. In the English class, there has been a focus on building paragraphs, experimenting with dialogue and correct punctuation and building descriptive characters and settings. We also finished reading our class text Charlotte’s Web, wrapping the novel study up by watching the film. Students then worked to identify similarities and differences between the two, discussing what version they preferred and why. In the Spanish classroom, students published their narratives with a focus on using descriptors to build characters and settings, and experimented with reflexive verbs to build problems and emotions.

This last week in Mathematics, students have started exploring measurement. In English we are looking at measuring and calculating elapsed time. In the Spanish classroom, students have been working on measuring with millimeters, centimeters and metres, focusing on comparing lengths of real life objects around the school, converting these lengths and estimating the length of things (particularly Alysha’s car, which really needs a wash!)

Our Cultural Week celebrations kicked off with a bang. The focus this term was on Venezuela. With Sole, students cooked arepas filled with cheese or honey. With Diego, students worked to learn his brilliant choreography to wow the school on Thursday at assembly. In Carmen's room, students worked to decorate a manduco- a traditional Venezuelan wooden tool.

Remember that Term 2 starts back on the 20th of April.

Camp will be in week 9 (June 15th-17th).

There is also a lot of lost property down in the C-Block that we have collected over the term. If your child is missing something, please go have a look! We ask that you label their clothing to ensure it can make its way back home.

Have a safe and lovely Easter break!

Grade 3/4 team.
