3rd Sunday of Easter - Luke 24:13-35 NRSVACE - The Walk to Emmaus - Now on that same - Bible Gateway
Two of the disciples of Jesus were on their way to a village called Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem, and they were talking together about all that had happened...
The story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus is a well-known and loved Gospel, shared in the Easter season to remind and encourage us on our journey of faith. The two disciples in aftermath of Jesus’ death are leaving Jerusalem for the village of Emmaus – effectively giving into despair and giving up on hope. Yet their encounter with one who they ultimately recognise as Jesus transforms everything. As one who had revealed the meaning of scripture to the disciples, Jesus then breaks bread with them, disappearing from their sight in the moment of revelation. Yet what hasn’t gone and indeed gains in strength is the disciples’ faith filled conviction that they must return to Jerusalem to share their good news: Jesus lives!
Moments doubt and despair in the Gospel stories this week and last week (when Thomas doubted Jesus was truly alive until he could touch his wounds) is balanced by presence and peace. We are all invited into this peace and to experience the presence of Christ in our lives. Father-Son-Spirit is with us, meeting us on the road, sharing bread – when we feel hopeless and sad, when we need consolation and company. And it this presence and peace that the world so desperately needs.
The Mission Team is thrilled to announce the hugely successful outcome of our recent Lenten Appeal for Australian Marist Solidarity which included our Easter Fundraiser, Ignatius Meat Tray Raffle and various House Initiatives... drumroll please…

We couldn’t do this without the help of our families and our very generous sponsors:
Tomorrow during our Period 5 normal assembly time, our College will hold a special Anzac Liturgy in the Champagnat Centre. Students and staff will come together to pray and acknowledge the many men and women who have served our country with courageous hearts and generous spirits. We will be joined by Marist Old Boy, Major Michael Stone who will speak to the boys about his longstanding relationship with Timor-Leste, including his military service there, along with his current work with Veterans Care Association. We extend an invitation to our Marist families, in particular, our service men and women to join us for this special liturgy.
