ANZAC Day Service at Watsonia RSL

On Saturday morning, the 25th of April, the school and vice captains were invited to attend the Watsonia RSL ANZAC Day Ceremony along with Mrs Anderson. 

To start off the ceremony, we represented our school by taking part in the march, led by the RSL band. We listened to the readings, an ANZAC day poem, and heard the Last Post and the Rouse. The school captains were called forward to represent St Martin’s by laying a wreath at the cenotaph. It was a privilege to be invited to this special event, remembering the brave soldiers who served our country during the war. Thank you to Mrs Anderson and Ms Lacey for organising the day for us all! On ANZAC Day at the Watsonia RSL, we cherished those who fought in the Australian and New Zealand defence forces, and it was such a beautiful way to remember those that gave up their lives for us. My great grand-father and grandpa served in the army and on Saturday I proudly wore my great grandfather's medals who served in World War 2.  (Amelia P)

On Saturday morning Olivia, Josh, Amelia and I gathered at the  Watsonia RSL for an ANZAC service. We marched along the street, proudly wearing medals of family members who risked their lives for us. Shortly after all the schools marched up the street, the service began in front of the RSL. We listened to the Last Post and some readings. Then each school was called up to place a floral wreath on the cenotaph. When St Martin’s was called, Olivia and I walked over to the cenotaph and bowed before placing the wreath. Shortly after that it was time to head home, but we enjoyed the experience and learning about the past of our country.  (Riley T)

On Saturday, the 25th of April, the School and Vice Captains attended the ANZAC Day service outside Watsonia RSL. As we arrived, we got into position to walk in the march. As we all walked down the street, there were bagpipes and drums playing. We all listened to some stories and the Last Post. We also listened to both the Australian and New Zealand national anthems. Then all the schools went to lay wreaths on the cenotaph as well as some other contributors and scout groups. After all wreaths had been laid, there were a few more stories and thank-yous. After the service it was time to go home, so we took a photo at the cenotaph before heading home. The service wasn’t super long, but I think it left an important message on all of us. (Joshua B)
