What a huge term it has been across the Senior School. It has been busy in the best way, with camps, excursions, celebrations, community events, student-led activities and lots of future-focused learning.

Our Year 12 students started the term with camp, which was such a great opportunity for them to spend time together outside of the classroom, build stronger connections as a group and make some memories before the final stretch of the year. It was lovely to see students step into new experiences, support each other and enjoy being together as a cohort.

Students had the opportunity to attend a range of future-focused expos this term. Our Year 10-12 students attended the Careers Expo, where they were able to explore different pathways, courses, industries and future options. Our Year 7-12 female and gender diverse students also attended the Trade and Tech Expo, where they were able to explore hands-on career pathways in trades, technology and industry. These experiences are so important because they help students start to picture what life after school could look like, ask questions, gather information and think more deeply about what they might want to do next.

A real highlight this term was our Year 12 Special Person Morning Tea. This was such a beautiful morning where students were able to invite someone important to them and share a moment of gratitude and celebration. It was a really special opportunity to acknowledge the people who support our students behind the scenes and to celebrate how far our young people have come. A special well done to Dylaina, who did a wonderful job hosting the morning and opening the event with a speech!

Our Year 11 students also welcomed their special people through their stalls, which created such a lovely community feel. Students worked hard to prepare, organise and run their stalls, and it was great to see them take ownership, interact with visitors and show pride in what they had created.

Year 11 students have also continued taking part in Thursday activities, including dodgeball, bike repair, UNO, karaoke and a range of other options. These sessions have been a great way for students to connect with different staff and peers, try something new, and build practical, social and teamwork skills in a more relaxed setting.

Across Years 7-10, students took part in the Probability Carnival, where they designed and ran their own probability-based games. This was such a fun way to bring numeracy to life, with students applying their learning through hands-on activities, game design and problem solving. Congratulations to our year-level winners: Edith in Year 7, Lachie in Year 8, Quinn in Year 9 and Marlow in Year 10. A special mention also goes to Edith and Reuben for winning Best Game, and Baxta for winning Best Host. A big shout-out to Ricky, Vincent and Milton for the work they put into supporting the carnival and helping make it such an engaging experience for students. Thank you also to all staff who supported on the day, whether that was helping students set up, encouraging participation, visiting games, supervising spaces or celebrating student efforts. Your support helped make the carnival feel fun, positive and community-focused.

We also had our first-ever KCHSFest, which was another wonderful celebration of student creativity. Students had the opportunity to share their media work, celebrate each other’s achievements and enjoy the incredible things that have been created throughout the semester. A huge thank you to Georgia for all of her work in bringing KCHSFest together and creating a space where students’ creativity could really shine.

Teddy’s Talent Show was another highlight and such a joyful way to celebrate the confidence, humour and talent within our school community. It takes a lot of courage to get up and perform in front of others, and it was so lovely to see students cheering each other on and creating such a supportive atmosphere. A big thank you to Simon, Josh, Ava and Mia, who have been working so hard with our VET Music students and supporting them to build their skills, confidence and love of performing.

This term has also included lots of important work around pathways. We are continuing to think carefully about how we build stronger connections with the industries and areas our students are interested in. Some of our students also completed their White Card for construction this term, which is an exciting step towards building practical skills and opening up future opportunities in the industry. The goal is to help students see real possibilities for their futures and to build a community around them that supports their goals, interests and next steps. A big thank you to Kylie and Marie for the work they have done in this space, their ongoing support, knowledge and care has been so valuable in helping students explore meaningful pathways.

Our Year 11 and 12 students also had the opportunity to take part in work experience this term. Work experience is such a valuable part of our pathways program, giving students the chance to step into real workplaces, build confidence, develop practical skills and explore industries they may be interested in for the future. It was great to see students trying new things, asking questions and beginning to make connections between school and life beyond KCHS. We are looking forward to offering work experience again at the end of Term 3 for our Year 11 and 12 students.

A very special mention must go to our Year 12 students who completed the GAT. We are so, so proud of them. They showed up, gave it a go and approached the day with maturity and resilience. For many students, this was a big and unfamiliar experience, and they handled it so well. They should be incredibly proud of themselves, because we definitely are.

Our VET students have also continued to engage in valuable learning experiences, including VET camps and other practical opportunities connected to their chosen industries. These experiences help students build confidence, independence and real-world skills, while also giving them a clearer sense of what their future pathways could look like.

Thank you to all of our students, staff, families and community partners for your support throughout the term. It has been a full term, but one with so many moments to celebrate.
