In term 2, the Junior school brought their creative talents into fruition across a variety of subjects and activities. In Year 7 Art, the students completed clay food models projects, and learned about the trailblazing Pop Art movement of the 1960s. In Media, the Year 8s honed their filmmaking and special effects skills to produce short films, which premiered at the 1st Annual KCHS-Fest (our school’s version of TropFest Film Festival). Over in Years 7-9 English, we studied imaginative texts, and many students submitted their creative writing pieces to the 4th Annual Creative Writing Competition (winners announced in Term 3).
Well done to the students who completed their films, stories and art projects, and thank you to the amazing staff for championing their skills and passions! I’m incredibly proud of the artistic pursuits we’ve seen at KCHS lately. Showcasing creativity can be a personal, vulnerable experience, and the fact that our students produced so much is a testament to our culture of welcoming all forms of expression.
Over the course of our curriculum, Tayba and the Maths crew organised the Probability Carnival as a send off for their unit in numeracy. An immensely successful event, we got to see the students create and design rules for their very own dice and chance games, which years 7-10 participated in. We also had a visit from 100 Story Building to bolster the creative writing skills for our English unit (and the story comp!). Food Tech continued to deliver an array of delectable delights. Lastly, the Electives Unit published school newspaper, which includes film reviews and general reporting on all things KCHS.
Overall, this was a term to nurture and develop the creativity of our junior cohort. This is will only grow as the year moves on, and I look forward to every moment!

On behalf of the Junior School team at KCHS, I want to wish you all a safe, happy and fun-filled holiday. This is a wonderful time to reflect upon the achievements made this term, both personal and academic.
