Intermediate School Report

Under the banner of “Learning to Make a Life,” our Year 9 and 10 students experienced a busy and highly meaningful Term 1, filled with opportunities to grow both academically and personally. A range of carefully planned experiences supported students to build independence, develop self-awareness, and begin thinking more deeply about their future pathways.

 In English, students explored the school’s core values, unpacking what respect, responsibility, and positive relationships look like in everyday situations. It was encouraging to see students making genuine connections between these values and their own behaviours and choices. Alongside this, all students participated in PAT testing for Reading and Mathematics, allowing us to track progress and identify areas for targeted support or extension. Our Year 9 cohort also completed their NAPLAN assessments, approaching the process with maturity and focus.

Student wellbeing was another key focus throughout the term. Through our partnership with Headspace, Victoria Police, and Whitehorse Youth Connections, students participated in the Celebrate Life wellbeing workshops. These sessions provided practical strategies for maintaining positive mental health, building resilience, and making safe, informed decisions in challenging situations. Engagement across the program was strong, with many students demonstrating thoughtful reflection and a willingness to apply what they had learned. 

For our Year 10 students, the term also marked the beginning of their career exploration journey. The Careers Expo exposed them to a wide range of industries and potential pathways, while follow-up workshops helped them develop practical skills such as applying for work experience, communicating confidently with employers, and identifying their own transferable skills. Together, these experiences provided a strong foundation for students as they begin to consider life beyond school.

I take this opportunity to thank Joel Octigan and Neil Wee, our Intermediate Year Level Coordinators, for allowing for Pathways activities throughout the term, and providing support for our Intermediate students and their families. As a team, we are very much looking forward to continuing our work alongside students as they grow in confidence, capability, and independence. 

We are excited to build on the strong foundations established in Term 1, supporting each student to further develop their skills, explore their interests, and take positive steps toward their future pathways.
