Principal's Report

Dear families,
Firstly, what a fantastic first Term we have had at BHSSC! Our students and staff have made the most of the term, and as you will see, have created engaging and worthwhile learning opportunities.
It’s exciting that this is our first newsletter for many years, with the aim to increase the production frequency of it.
What has struck me over the course of this term is the emphasis and importance placed on relationships between students and staff. The traditional hierarchical barriers are broken down and staff and students work in partnership together. This, combined with the array of programs and choice students have here, make it a truly authentic senior college, and one where our students are at the centre. This is something we don't take for granted and never want to lose.
Being the principal of this school is special. BHSSC is unique, which is what attracted me to the role. Over the course of the next few years, we will be further embracing our uniqueness and have made the decision to increase the capacity in our programs, which will in turn also mean an increase in our enrolments. While we will grow as a school, it's our mission to keep our 'small school feel', where every student is seen, valued and heard.
Our vision for the years ahead is quite simple; to be a true school of student ‘choice’. At this school, students choose to come here, students choose their pathway and staff choose to work here. Over the coming months we will be conducting surveys of parents and forums of students to provide us with the input we need to take our school forward. Your feedback in this is valued and appreciated.
I would like to end by thanking our dedicated and wonderful staff. For their commitment to the model of learning, diversity and inclusion at BHSSC and their support of our students. I would like to thank our students, for the opportunity they provide to work and learn with them every day. And finally, to you, our families, who are our partners in learning. Thank you for your support of our school, and for partnering with us to ensure our students are well prepared for the future.
Enjoy this term’s newsletter. For those who celebrate, have a happy Easter, and for everyone, have a safe and enjoyable break.
