IDENTITY

In the midst of busy school life, juggling assignments, catching up with friends and chasing goals for the future, it’s easy to feel like we’re constantly trying to prove ourselves. We can fall into the trap of thinking our worth is tied to the grades we get, the sports we play, or the friends we have.

The world might tell us we need to be more—more popular, more talented, more successful. But God's truth is different. You were created with purpose and love, and your value isn't something you have to earn or prove.

It's a gift from your Creator. He made you exactly the way you are, and that is more than enough. You are a masterpiece, handcrafted with unique talents and a story that only you can live out. I lead a group of Year 12 boys at a local youth group, and as they begin to wrap up their year I’ve found it super important to emphasise that their value isn’t found in the results they receive.

As assessments pile up and study takes over all your free time, it can often shift our focus and self-worth away from God.

My identity in Christ was something I struggled with as a teenager, constantly trying to ‘one-up’ and prove my worth to others, as I’m sure many others do. I found it super helpful to take a step back from life’s endless activities and reconnect with God. Piggybacking off Ivan’s devotion in the last newsletter, rest and resetting are essential to connecting with your Creator.

For me, that often means picking up my camera and heading out for a drive to capture landscapes—finding beauty in moments God has created. In those quiet, creative spaces, I’m reminded of who I am in Him.

“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” - Jeremiah 29:11“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well.” - Psalm 139:14
