Beyond the Bell

Mathematics Talent Quest - Congratulations to Our Young Investigators!

We’re thrilled to congratulate all the studentswho rose to the challenge and entered the Mathematics Talent Quest (MTQ) this year! The competition is open to all students from Foundation through Year 12 and encourages curiosity, real-world thinking, and creative mathematical investigations.

Students first enter Stage 1, which is open to all entrants at the school level. This is the first year that ENPS has been involved and we were so impressed to see 20 students step up to the challenge. The top projects then go forward to Stage 2 for state-level judging.

A special shout-out to these outstanding students who have advanced to Stage 2 judged entries - your projects truly stood out, and we can’t wait to see where your exploration leads next:

  • Mitchell, Year One – How long will it take me to earn my Taekwondo black belt?

  • Elisha,  Year Two – Sweet Surprises: Exploring probability with Smarties

  • Harrison, Year Three – Which energy source is best?

  • Jasper, Year Four - Detective! The Mystery of Items Found in Lost Property

  • Harshad, Year Five - Pizza Packing Box – Square vs Round

In Stage 2, projects are formally judged at the state level which is exciting! Regardless of the outcome, your effort and creativity shine brightly. Winners may even receive recognition at the upcoming MTQ Awards Ceremony.

Well done to everyone who participated. We’re immensely proud of your hard work, imagination, and mathematical thinking. Thank you to families for all your support!

Let’s keep celebrating curiosity, creativity, and the joy of math!

Mathematics Games Day Highlights

On Friday 22nd, eight enthusiastic Year Five students represented our school at the MAV Mathematics Games Day, hosted at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School (PEGS). It was a fantastic opportunity for our young mathematicians to tackle a series of exciting challenges and show off their problem-solving skills!

Back Row: Lucy, Zadie, Andriano and Owen. Front Row: Nivaan, Noah, Ethan and Lawson.

Throughout the day, teams rotated through many math-based challenges that tested their thinking, teamwork, and quick reasoning. It was all about working together, thinking on your feet, and having fun with numbers.

The grand finale was the Ultimate Race - a super exciting relay-style event where teams competed to solve 19 questions as fast as they could. It was thrilling to watch our students collaborate, encourage one another, and race to finish accurately and swiftly.

Well done to all our Year Five participants - you tackled each challenge with energy, creativity, and teamwork. Whether you answered quickly, covered new strategies, or cheered on your peers, your enthusiasm made the day memorable.
