Classroom Reports

Foundation
We are so excited to welcome two very special additions to our classroom – Schmoofy and Floofy the guinea pigs! Every Friday, the students will have the opportunity to hold, observe, and care for them. This week, we read and wrote some interesting facts about guinea pigs, helping us get to know our new friends and understand how to look after them responsibly. In Literacy, we’ve been diving into the picture storybook "Boo Loves Books." The students have been making meaningful connections with the main character, Phoebe – especially her experience of reading to a dog to build her confidence. Inspired by this, many of our students are excited about the idea of reading to Schmoofy and Floofy.
Book Week was a big success! Students took part in a range of fun and engaging book-related activities that celebrated reading. It was lovely to see the students so involved and enthusiastic.
To top off the week, we had a special treat – making scones with Miss Douglas on Friday! The students had a great time measuring, mixing, and of course, tasting. The scones were a big hit and a lovely way to end a busy and joyful week.

Year 1 & 2A
It has been a busy and exciting few weeks in our classroom!
In Maths and Digital Technologies, we have been working with BeeBots to develop our coding skills. Students have enjoyed creating mazes and challenges for their BeeBots, practicing their directional language while problem-solving and collaborating with their peers.
We have also been journeying through The Enchanted Wood and discovering the magical adventures that happen up the Faraway Tree. The students have loved exploring the different lands and characters, and these stories have sparked lots of rich discussion, predicting and summarising.
Our Inquiry unit has focused on Caring for Country. We have been learning about significant landmarks around Australia, including Warrumbungle National Park and The Great Ocean Road. Students have been fascinated by the beauty and diversity of these places and are developing their understanding of why it is so important to look after our environment.
It has been wonderful to see the curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm shining through in all areas of learning!

We are flying through term 3!
The last few weeks have been quite busy with book week activities, then followed by a change of classroom for a couple of days.
Book week was a fantastic celebration for all, students’ costumes were truly amazing, and their participation was excellent! Thank you to all the families for your hard work and preparation for this.
I also cannot be any prouder at how well students have adapted to the new routine of being in a new classroom. They understood that class expectations were the same and were able to enjoy themselves in a new space, keep up the great work!
Mr Campbell, 3/4A Classroom Teacher
Year 3/4B
Over the last couple weeks, the 3/4B class have been learning lots of new stuff. We have been exploring our class text Matilda, which all the kids are loving. We have been exploring time in Maths and focusing on living things and animal adaptations in Inquiry.
Last week we had our Book Week Parade and Reading Relay, which some of our students were selected to participate in. All the costumes looked amazing, and it was great to see all students dress up! Congratulations to all those who received a prize for the Reading Marathon so far, I am super impressed by those who are reading every night and encourage everyone to keep reading at home, and to focus on understanding the text they are reading as well.
This Friday is a student free/curriculum day - enjoy the extra long weekend!

Year 5/6
The Grade 5/6 students thoroughly enjoyed Book Week. It was great to see people and families getting into the spirit of the event.
This week we're full steam ahead, some might say 'sprinting' our way into reading. Students in class have been reading Can You See Me and Black Cockatoo.
Students will continue to receive their weekly homework on Wednesday. They will have a week to complete the task.
Have a great week.

Science Week
Science Week Coliban Water Visit
As part of National Science Week, students across the school enjoyed a series of engaging presentations from Ben, a guest presenter from Coliban Water. Each year level explored a different theme connected to caring for our water and environment.
Year 7 students took part in Flushed, a workshop about what should and shouldn’t go down the toilet. They learned how everyday items can affect plumbing and water treatment systems, and why it’s important to only flush the “3 Ps” – pee, poo and (toilet) paper.
The primary classes focused on the water cycle and discovered where Wedderburn’s water comes from. They explored how water is collected, treated, and delivered to our community, and why it’s such a precious resource. Students were eager to share their ideas, asked great questions, and left with a deeper appreciation of how important it is to look after our local water supplies.

Year 10
It has been a busy and rewarding few weeks for our Year 10 students.
We are excited to remind everyone that Work Experience Week will take place at the end of this term, with students heading out to a wide range of placements across Bendigo. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore future pathways and gain valuable workplace experience. A big thank you goes to Carol Woodman and Robyn Vella for their effort in securing placements for all students and guiding them through the preparation process. We would also like to congratulate our students for contacting their employers this week and for working well to complete their compulsory WorkSafe OHS units ahead of their placements.
The Reading Marathon is in full swing! Right now, Jacka holds the lead, but with the next tally taking place on Friday 29th August, there is still time for big changes. Next week we’ll be celebrating the students who have shown the greatest improvement in their recorded reading minutes in the ‘Reading Sprint’. With box set book prizes up for grabs (on display outside the library), there is plenty of motivation to get reading! Whether you are already logging lots of minutes or just getting started, a strong effort this week could earn you a gold medal and a great prize.
Remember, when it comes to recording your reading, time spent reading is what counts. Whether you read one book in an hour or several smaller ones, the points are the same - so slow down, enjoy your story, and make every minute count.
It was also wonderful to see so many of our Year 10 students embrace the fun of Book Week last week by dressing up and celebrating their favourite characters. Events like these are a great way to build school and house spirit while celebrating the joy of reading.
Beginning next week, Year 10 students will be asked to ensure they are not in the classroom before the school bell. This will mean that once they put their school bags and belongings into their lockers, students will need to head out into the quadrangle or library until our morning briefing bell goes at 8.55am.
Have a great week!

Week 6 – SAC Week!
It’s hard to believe we’re already over halfway through Term 3 – though judging by the number of SACs in different subjects this week, it could just as easily be called SAC Week!
A huge well done to all students for their efforts over the past fortnight. From the enthusiasm and great costumes Book Week to the fantastic energy at the parade, it’s been great to see so many getting involved. A special mention to our parade hosts, Jade and Dakota, who did brilliantly leading the event. Congratulations to our own Happy Gilmore – Ollie for winning best dressed.
Our VM students have also been kicking goals with their Structured Work Place Learning. We’re especially proud to share that four students have secured School-Based Apprenticeships – a fantastic achievement and a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Subject selections for next year are now complete, and we’ve begun the exciting process of deciding on a Yr 12 jumper for 2026 – watch this space for updates!
For our students studying a Unit 3 & 4 subject, the finish line for the year is getting closer. With only a few weeks before studies wrap up, this is the time to stay focused, keep building on your hard work, and make the most of every lesson and revision session.
Mr G’s Study Tip
Plan your time: Break your study into short, focused sessions (about 20–30 minutes) with quick 5-minute breaks in between. This helps your brain stay fresh and makes big tasks feel more manageable.
Have a great week!
