Year 11 & 12

Over the September school holidays, Year 12 students and Year 11 students studying Units 3 & 4 subjects at the College will be sitting indicative examinations.  These examinations are compulsory for all students who are sitting the VCAA examinations at the end of the year.  They are an essential opportunity for students to practise their examination technique, including use of reading time, maintaining focus for the duration of the task and pacing their responses.  Students will also be provided with detailed feedback from their teachers on their work.

It is expected that students prepare for these indicative examinations, as they would the final examinations of the year.  The results of these examinations, in combination with practise pieces completed in class in Term 4 and SAC results, will be used to provide VCAA with indicative grades for the final examinations.  It is imperative that students put their best effort into these tasks and use them as an opportunity to get an accurate assessment of how they are tracking in preparation for the final assessments of their VCE.  The examinations will run from Tuesday 23 September – Thursday 25 September and Monday 29 September – Tuesday 30 September, inclusive.  Mr Ladnjak, Curriculum Leader, has posted the timetable for all students to see on Compass.

I would like to remind families of VCE students that no family holiday is an approved absence.  Students who miss weeks of their VCE put themselves at risk of not passing units. I know that I make this clear at parent information evenings and to students in assemblies, but I thought it timely to remind everyone in this forum.  It is expected that VCE students attend school a minimum of 90% of the time. The rationale for this is that teachers are able to observe student progress daily and can evaluate work done in class, in addition to the formal assessment task, to assess whether a student has satisfied an outcome.  Without being in class, there is no opportunity for students to satisfy the outcome prior to the assessment task.  Whilst this is crucial in both VCE and VCE (VM), students in the Vocational Major stream have assessments that requires group work and project delivery over an extended period of time, which means that consistent attendance is even more critical.  Please avoid unnecessary absences and please contact the relevant Student Managers if you have any queries about your personal circumstances.
