Year 7 Boys AFL Gala Day
On Wednesday 13 August, 18 enthusiastic Year 7 boys proudly represented Trinity at the AFL Gala Day at Jelbart Park. Schools from as far as Leeton attended, making it a fantastic opportunity for players of all experience levels to enjoy the game in a 12-a-side format on reduced grounds.
Across four matches, our team recorded two strong wins and two narrow losses - falling by just three points and two goals in highly competitive games.
The boys were a pleasure to coach, showing great teamwork, sharing game time, and eagerly taking on advice. As the day progressed, their style of play improved noticeably, using the wings and running strength to move the ball effectively.
Lucas Hutchins and Jack Spinelli impressed with their strong marking, while Lucas Gleeson, Harry Carpenter, Julius Roth, Joseph Charlton, and Jordan Daniels provided relentless drive through the midfield and forward line. Ted Vesey, Thomas Perry, Banjo Gow, George Whitsed, and Oliver Hunter stood tall in defence, often against bigger opponents.
Thank you to Mr Jacob Cincurak for organising the day and to Mr James Thurling for his invaluable assistance.
Year 7 Girls AFL Gala Day
If you didn’t see them on the field, you certainly heard them!
Our spirited Year 7 girls brought plenty of energy - and volume - to the AFL Gala Day at Jelbart Park last Wednesday, proving that the future of girls’ AFL is not only bright, but loud!
The team played four matches, starting in style with a commanding win over James Fallon. Remi James set the tone with a goal in the opening seconds, while Blaze Phillips was outstanding across half-back, repeatedly driving the ball forward with precision. Young Tilly Smith impressed with her fearless approach, and Maddison Harding grew in confidence with every game to become a key contributor.
The girls recorded two wins and two narrow losses, including a thrilling two-point finish against Xavier High. Coach Ms Kirrily Boyd praised their enthusiasm, teamwork, and talent - even joking that she might convince a few to switch codes permanently.
Special thanks to Yozora Hooper, Callum Jones, Charlie Maskel and Max Whitsed, who umpired tirelessly throughout the day and helped make the event possible.
A special congratulations to a talented group of Year 7 Trinity girls who have been playing together as Team POWER in U13s netball under the guidance of their coach for the past 18 months.
The girls capped off an outstanding indoor season at LJ Stadium with a hard-fought seven-point Grand Final win on 28 June.
Their success continued at the 41st Rand Netball Football Carnival, where they were one of the few stand-alone teams in the U13s competition. Taking on strong sides from the Hume, Picola, Murray, and O&M leagues, Team POWER won five of their six matches - their only loss by a single point - to reach another Grand Final.
Although they went down by seven points to an undefeated opponent, the girls displayed class, maturity, and exceptional teamwork.
Congratulations to Georgia Trebley, Maddison Harding, Maya Schneider, Zoe Tomlinson, Zara O’Rourke, Layla Watson, Lucy Wilson, Georgie Whitehead, and Lola Bergman on a remarkable season.
It has been a big week for Trinity’s basketballers, with standout performances at the State Cup. Coming off a week at the BNSW TAP camps. Blake Distefano, Ethan Crisp, Ted Vesey, Charlie Bayliss and Junior Sports Captain Louie Menz all were crucial in making the State Cup Grand final this most recent weekend.
The team recorded wins over Sydney Comets (by 2), West Sydney Wolves (by 4), and Byron Beez (by 12) to reach the Grand Final against Blacktown Storm. Scores were tied at the start of the fourth quarter, but the team eventually went down by 11 points. This achievement marks the first time in 12 years that a country team has reached the Grand Final, finishing as number two in the State—a remarkable effort.
Congratulations to the following athletes who have earned selection in the Trinity teams heading to the Gold Coast this December to compete at the Australian Schools Basketball Championships.
This achievement follows more than two months of trials and training, including practice match trips to Melbourne.

In comparison to other competing schools, our ‘boutique size’ team has achieved wonderful results with students placing on the podium in almost every division we had competitors entered in. We commend all our competitors for their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and resilience in challenging alpine conditions. Their efforts not only reflected individual excellence but also strengthened our school’s presence in the regional Snowsports carnival. Mrs Culligan and Mr Monaghan are particularly proud of the way our junior school and seniors school students integrated and supported one another across the 4 days. We wish all competitors who are going onto the next stage, the NSW Interschools State Championships, all the very best!
We thank the supporting families, with special thanks to those that volunteered their time as course officials. On behalf of the Trinity Snowsports Team, we extend our thanks to Snow Australia, Falls Creek Lift Management and the Race Department Teams for their efforts in hosting the carnival and ensuring the smooth and safe operation of all courses.
In the interest of growing our 2026 Trinity Snowsports Team, we strongly encourage any new families are who are interested in participating next year to contact Sarah Culligan or Jarrod Monaghan for more information. The Snowsports carnival is an inclusive event suitable for skiers and snowboarders from kindergarten to Year 12 who are capable of descending intermediate (blue) resort runs.
On Friday 8 August, we enjoyed perfect winter weather at Falls Creek for an action-packed Winter Biathlon!
The day began with a ski lesson to help everyone get comfortable before the competition – especially impressive for those hitting the snow for the very first time.
The event featured a team race with three ski legs and two turns on the laser rifle, and our students delivered some fantastic results:
A huge thank you to Bob for organising such a brilliant day on the snow – an unforgettable experience for all!
Congratulations to Year 9 student, Ryder Murray, who recently competed in the U15 AFL Nationals in Brisbane, proudly representing NSW. His team finished 5th overall – a fantastic result against some of the country’s traditional football powerhouses.
Ryder’s selection is an incredible achievement. He was the only player selected from our region and also the only Indigenous player on the team. He was one of just nine boys to return from the primary school state team – a true testament to his talent and dedication.
We’re so proud of Ryder and can’t wait to see what’s next for him as he enters an exciting few years of representative AFL opportunities!
