YEAR 8 CAMP

Last week, our Year 8 students headed to The Summit Camp for three days of challenge, teamwork, and adventure. From the moment we arrived, the excitement was high, with students eager to see what was ahead.

Students took part in activities such as the Giant Swing, Leap of Faith, Sky High, Laser Skirmish, and the Bush Obstacle Course. Each activity encouraged them to step outside their comfort zones and support one another. Communication, teamwork, and encouragement were just as important as strength or skill, and it was great to see so many students working together and cheering each other on.

On the second day, the highlight was the legendary Monster Course. Teams raced through mud, water, and obstacles, working together to carry heavy objects, crawl through tunnels, and climb over walls. Despite getting covered head to toe in mud, the students gave it their all and showed incredible team spirit, proving that a bit of dirt makes the experience even more memorable.

The Summit also focuses on personal growth, teaching students to set goals, think positively, and show resilience. The ‘Five Keys to Success’; Have Fun, Play All In, Make Lots of Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable, and Don’t Go Home Wondering “What If?”  which became the motto of the camp.

On the last day of camp, the students voted for a peer in their group who best represented the camp’s values. Congratulations to Lenny, Kobi, Charley, Georgia, Scarlett, and Flint for being recognised by their peers for their leadership, positivity, and teamwork. As a special reward, these students had the unforgettable experience of riding in an actual army tank, a unique way to finish an amazing camp.

By the end of camp, everyone returned home tired but full of stories and memories. Whether it was overcoming a fear, laughing with friends, or trying something new, the Year 8 Summit Camp was an experience that will be remembered for a long time.

Student Recounts:

Our Year 8 camp at The Summit was honestly one of the best experiences ever. From the moment we hopped off the bus, it was full-on fun. The Skybridge was a real standout – a massive test of balance where you had to concentrate on every step. Then there was the High Wire, which gave you such a rush, and Laser Skirmish, where everyone got right into it and the friendly competition was next level. One of the best things? No phones. Sounds strange, but no one really missed them. We were too busy having a laugh, getting stuck into the activities, and enjoying the fresh air. It was great to have a yarn with your mates without a screen in the way.

The Summit was a thrilling, action-packed camp filled with challenges, excitement, and laughter. We tackled adventurous activities such as the monster course which pushed us out of our comfort zones, built resilience, and strengthened our teamwork skills. Every day brought lots of new obstacles and fun moments that made it an unforgettable experience.
